Wez, sorry you are having the present difficulties.
As Stick says, if you can post your network details we should be able to help you. How are you installing the image. I assume you are using Dreamup via a serial cable from your laptop. Are your internet connections via a router or via the laptop? If you are not sure where to start you can get me on msn and we can run through the sequence.

Hi all,
Thank you all so much and it is very much appreciated. I have listed below the info for my connections which I got from windows, by the way I am using Vista, have a Sony Vaio and am connected to my box using a direct connection with a crossover cable. PPP adaptor Dial-up Connection DHCP Enabled No IPv4 Address 194.46.140.12 Preferred Autoconfiguration Enabled Yes Subnet Mask 255.255.255.255 DNS Servers 195.218.116.2 194.46.8.57 Net BIOS OVER tcpip Disabled I have my box connestion set up as follows IP 182.168.0.24 Net Mask 255.255.255.0 Type LAN Nameserver 192.168.0.1 Gateway 192.168.0.1 I am back with Helenite again and have just the CCcam 1.0.0 that came with it. The only reason that I use that image is that it has an emu and as I can load any more eums to any image I have tried it is the only way I can decode channels for the footy and that. I hope that this will allow you to have a better idea of what is happening. Many thanks again and best wishes and good luck Wez.

Hi kez, at a quick look, it appears that your connection to the internet is from your laptop via a dialup modem. Is that correct?
For the dreambox and laptop to be networked, they need to be on the same ip group and subnet mask. The ip and subne mask do not appear correct for a local area network. Do you have a lan card in the laptop? The IP for that should be something like 192.168.0.1, the last number being between 1 and 255. The subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0 Open a dos window and type in ipconfig /all. That should give you all the laptop info. It may be that you need to configure the lan card with the IP and subnet as above. The dreambox IP should be the same as the laptop but with a dufferent last number. 24 should be ok. The subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0 In the dreambox connections config window, disable dhcp, enter the various ip subnet mask etc and set the nameserver and gateway numbers as the laptop IP. To connect to the internet, the laptop will have to be logged on. The better arrangement is to have a permanent braodband connection and a router for connection when the laptop is offline.

Hi Jimie,
Unfortunately I can't get broadband here, not even mobile. 3 are doing 10Gigs for €14.99 a month, but it is not in my outback location. I am using a direct crossover cable to connect my laptop and the box, maybe that is why I cannot get any downloads from the net to the box. I can't download a file or picture using the blue button, so there is no internet connection between the box and the net. I can, however, get a picture from the box, so that part of it must be OK. I would talk to you on msn, but I have not got it and it would take forever to download it, I did have it on my PC, but the hard drive gave up the ghost and I have not even got it on one of my sticks. Just thought I might have it on a 500Gig external drive, put loads of stuff on there will try after I get this sent to you and will chat to you very soon if I have got it. Many thanks and good luck Wez

Hi all,
When it says that I should put my EMU in temp and then install it with the blue button, (1) do I put the Winrar file into temp or (2) do I first unzip the file to a folder and then rename that folder the file name.tar.gz? If I had some idea of how to install the EMUs by putting them into temp and then using the blue button to do a manual update it would be very handy and I would not be needing to worry about internet connections. I am just now installing Nabilo Maxvar image to try it, have not tried it yet so fingers crossed I might just get somewhere with it. Best regards Wez

Hi Wez. I concur exactly with what Jim said on your networking. Nothing will happen until you fix that. It's just not possible
![]() Follow the advice carefully, and you should be OK. You also have to configure your Vaio to allow the connection to be shared. I'm still finding my way around Vista, but it should be an advanced property of the network connection item. Yes, you have to un-RAR the file before moving to /temp and performing a manual install.

After you unrar the file, you will have a *.tar.gz file or similar. It is that file that goes into tmp.
If you unzip the .tar.gz file you will see other folders eg /var with sub folders for /bin, /keys, /etc, /script, etc depending upon the image and emu you are using. If you look at those folders you will see the way the files are installed by the automatic script.

Thanks boys,
I shall try that when I get back from Tralee, silly peps at new car ins have not got my no claims proof and they are going to up my cost if I don't get the proof to them by the 27, so got to go to my old insurers and get a copy and then fax it of to my new lot. I did try the Nabilo MaxVar, but I could no install any Emu in it. I messed it up by doing a software update using on of my emus, which needless to say did not work, I realised what I had Donne when it was too late to stop it and I am now back with my good old Helenite lol. I had an old mgcamd file that said it was for Pli and I managed to install it by putting a file in var, I think and another one in var/etc/pilgir/cams, but it was the 1.2.2 version and it is the 1.2.5 version I need to get Prem?. Unfortunately that is the only sum that is like that and the file I put in var was meant to go to usr, but tere was none. I must say that at the same time as you have been so kind, understanding and helpfull I have been trying to get some help from the Pli site, but they do not have the same attitude or understanding that you have and whilst they have tried to help they seem to think that I should now more than I do, and if I don't have kind and helpfull people like yourselves, then how am I to learn. I might take the Vaio and the box to the compute shop and ask them to help, they are very reliable and helpfull. I feel myself that the issue is with Vista not being set up to allow the box to communicate with the net, through the laptop. Got to go sort my insurance out first and then go to the computer shop, I will let you know how I get on and thanks very much for all your help. Good luck and take care Wez

Hi lads,
The best thing that happened today is I got my car insurance sorted. I went to the computer shop, but the boss was not there and the repair man is Eastern European and did not have a clue what I was talking about. The boss will be there tomorrow and I shall go back then and hope he can sort me out. The guy who serves in the shop and the repair man both have a very bad word for Vista and the counter bloke reckons it is probable down to Vista. I got a reply from a mod in the Pli site and he gave me a link to a download for something they call trabal, might not have spelt it right, but he seems to think that if I install this in var/etc/ and it is just called softwareand is an xml file, I might not know a lot but I was of the impression that an xml file was for sats and that, that all will be OK. I shall see when I get it in the box. I will keep you informed as to what is happening. Good luck and best wishes Wez
