Default Re: Prem? on Dreambox 500s

Good morning all, I have just thought about something that might well have a bearing on my ability to connect to the net through my laptop. I can only get dial up here and I have Onspeed to help my speed, it connects through a proxy 127.0.0.1 and port 5405. It might be that my default gateway should be 127.0.0.1, just a thought.

I won't get to the computer shop today as I am building a base for a Channel Master 1.2 mtr dish and a friend who is helping me says he is doing a job today and has to quit at 3PM to collect the kids from school and he will bring the concrete for the base when he quits. I might try phoning the computer shop owner and ask him his advice on the phone. If he asks me to come in this morning then I might just be able to get into him before my mate comes with the concrete.

Your advice would be very welcome in the meantime.

Very best regards Wez

Wez, can you do something for me?

On your laptop, click START, then Run.

In the box, type 'command' without the quotes. Click OK.

At the resulting prompt, type 'ipconfig /all' without the quotes, as shown in the attached picture.

When you get the result, right click the window, and choose 'Select all'. Now press Ctrl and insert on your keyboard at the same time, and then paste the results in a post here. Doing so will allow us to fix your problem.

Many thanks BGonaSTICK,
I seem to be very silly here, but which key is the insert one, I have the details you require and can select all, but can't get a capture to post to you. I look forward to your reply. Best wishes Wez

Do you have any other computers other than the Vaio and the Dreambox?

You have a 56K dial-up modem on the Vaio, yes?

No other network components or connections?

Hi,
I do not have any other computers other than the laptop and the box.
Yes I have a dialup modem.
There should be no other network or connections.

I feel that I should scrap this network and set up a new one, but I have not found a way to remove this network yet.

Many thanks and good luck Wez

Excuse my interruption Stick and I will try not to confuse.

It would appear that the Marvell Yukon lan card has been configured for internet connection and not lan. The main lan settings have been put into the wireless card.

The settings for the Marvell lan card should be changed as follows.

DHCP - No
IPv4 address - manual and set to 192.168.0.10 (the 10 so that it does not conflict with the wireless card.)
Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0

The dreambox settings should be:
deselect DHCP
IP - 192.168.0.24
subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
default gateway - 192.168.0.10

enable network

The system should be perfectly ok with Vista.

To alter the settings, use:
START>SETTINGS>NETWORK CONNECTIONS
right select the MARVELL LAN CARD and select properties
highlight INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP) and select properties
select USE THE FOLLOWING IP ADDRESS and add the values

Thanks so much Jim and Stick, I am no on my Toshiba laptop running XP have either of you any idea about the config for XP please?

I cannot get the bl**dy Vista to do anything. Is there a way I can remove that LAN from Vista and start over again with a new LAN connection, might just be the best way, but if I can get this to laptop and XP to work that would do me for what I need. I have to us this laptop to Dreamup for the simple reason that Vista will nor allow me to use me USB to serial adaptor, it really is a pain and the bloke in the computer shop says it is also, reckons they are doing twice the work for the same money sorting out all the mess with it.

Tanks again and I really am sorry to be such a stupid person.

Very best regards Wez
