Default fitting a modem to linux receiver

im thinking of buying another linux reciever as a gift for my parents

they have no adsl so id like to fit a modem to the tty port so i can dial in and update the files ect

I cant see anything on the tm sites have any of the dreambox owners on here seen anything

ive looked at my tm9100 and ppp is not installed and an unsure as the the packages are managed on these boxes
I really dont want to freelance and brick my box

thanks

It probably won't be straight forward, whichever way you do it. One thing you could do is put a PC in there somewhere (nothing special) and use it as an ethernet dial up modem (maybe have it auto-connect when its switched on)..? Then, once the box is connected to the net, you could just establish a connection straight to the box?

It'd probably be easier to establish a connection to the Internet, rather than dialing directly into the box.

TM9100 got built-in modem AFAIK.
Not sure if there are drivers for it though.

Sounds ugly.

Either a cheap old lappy (built-in modem) with a Linux gateway/server package on (like Smoothwall or ipcop) or just get them a cheap adsl package to go with it!
