Default MTV to launch European HD net

MTV Networks International is planning to launch the operation’s first HD channel for the European market.

The as yet unnamed network will be operated by MTVNI’s Emerging Markets Group and broadcast in English from MTV’s Warsaw hub.

The base is also responsible for MTVNI’s other pan-regional services in Europe; MTV European, VH1 European and VH1 Classic European. It operates four Polish language services and earlier this month launched MTV Ukraine.

The international HD channel will draw on established MTV series already being captured in the HD format including MTV Unplugged, VH1 Storytellers, CMT’s Crossroads and key events programming such as the MTV Europe Music Awards.

A branded block for MTV Networks’ Nickelodeon will include cartoons SpongeBob SquarePants, Avatar, Ren & Stimpy and live-action series, including Drake & Josh.
