Austrian public broadcaster ORF will start HD transmissions next year at the occasion of the Olympic Games in Beijing and the European Cup football matches to be played in Austria and Switzerland. But after the two big sporting events there are no plans to start regular HD programming.
Both major sporting events will be produced in HD anyway, and the Austrian broadcaster hopes to bring them to the country in HD quality with the help of its transmission and facilities company ORS. The problem is that after the games there probably won’t be enough HD programming to continue broadcasts in the format. Source: Broadband TV News
