Default Brackets

My new setup, at last.

The first photo shows 9 year old fixed steel 87 cm. dish with 3 LNBs, 2-way diseqc switch and 2 cheap co-ax cables (Sly and 13/19).

The second photo shows new 99 cm. aluminium Funke dish with Titanium second edition 0.2dB LNB, Jaeger 99G H to H motor and Hirschman KOKA799DIGI co-ax cable pointing to Hispasat30W over the roof ridge.

The third shows Funke dish pointing to 57E.

Despite the Funke dish being installed about 40 cm. higher, and having a larger surface area than the old dish, because the new installation has a much longer length of pole below the top bracket, the total load on the top three brackets is actually less than the load was on the single bracket in the old installation. This is also true for the lower brackets.

But the torque on the new pole (steel, 50mm. with a wall thickness of 4.0mm.) is higher, by a factor of two, than that experienced by the old pole (aluminium, 50mm. with a wall thickness of 1.6 mm.).

Very nice indeed. That's a quality setup and well engineered. The pole material and wall thickness are the key here. A good example of how to do it properly

in the old installation, the coach screws of the top bracket had actually become slightly loose and I initially was going to use two brackets (one T and one K) for both the top and the bottom - but this was overkill for the bottom which has to bear much less strain; so I decided to go for overkill at the top as well and use three brackets by reusing one of the old T brackets with the result

I could not find a decent (new, unbent) scaffold pole locally so I bought this from H!sat. The pole was originally 2.5 metres long but H!sat have to saw 6 cm. off it or the carriage charge is exorbitant. the pole cost slightly less than the carriage (£15.86) - but what the hell, it's only money.

i don't use those coach screws as don't like them and find sleeve anchor bolts better

hows the jaeger motor as thinking of putting one on my triax dish, are they fast and does the dish get a good fixing on the pole as its not that wide in diameter what 1.5inch ?

@Wod

Just timed it - 14 seconds from Hispasat,30W to NSS703,57E

One problem with motor is that the shaft points upwards and away from the dish, so you need some sort of stand-off on the bent extension or the dish fouls the motor (see picture - the black plates).

Yep - pole is 1.5 in. but no trouble fixing dish to it.
