Reception Reports Pulling in a weak satellite signal from afar?

They must be turning the power down for the whole of Europe in that case - it wouldnt just affect us.

I was just guessing they may be reducing the uplink power.& inviting/invoking a responce.Does anyone know what is happening ,& is it possible to "circumnavigate" ?

Ive seen quite a few reports of the signal disappearing during matches but being perfectthe rest of the week. At a guess they are reducing the uplink power a few dB - this will have the effect of reducing the downlink power too since the satellite onboard amplifiers can only amplify whats incoming to a certain degree. Because of the "digital cliff" effect (unlike analogue which degrades as the signal weakens with digital you you go from more or less perfect reception to nothing at all with a tiny decrease in received downlink power) undersized dishes will lose lock as the downlink power reduces.

The way around it would be to put a bigger dish up although I have no idea what size dish would be required in the UK to guarantee reception - and if word got out thay would just encrypt all the footy anyway!

They did the same today even though it was not advertised/listed on LJ's. It was listed on 42e.
