It was always popular beleif that if it was brown it was just ordinary coax

Got some here that states otherwise

Yeah, I think the 80cm is a good idea for the reason Nano has said. Although it might be best to stick with a single LNB to start with, and upgrade to a monoblock later, when you understand everything a bit more.
Guys, I have no idea what a single lnb is compared to a monoblock?
Otherwise I am starting to understand a little bit more.
If i buy a receiver with lots of slots I can expand with decoder cards. Okay one slot!
Also I have a good hiding place for a dish so may as well go for the bigger one as long as it is giving more content and better signal performance.
Can you split a satellite signal at the dish with a UHF freeveiw ariel? So only one coax is used???? :?I suppose the impedances are all wrong for the CT100.

Hi again Sean,

A monoblock is just a way of conveniently placing effectively two LNBs on one dish, so that you can pick up two satellites without the need to move the dish.

For example a 6 degree monoblock can be set up for Astra1 (19.2E) and Hotbird (13E) because they are 6 degrees apart ( well almost enough )

Example monoblock:-

Example ordinary LNB:-

Yes I think that you can combine the Tv aerial output with the satellite signal.
It's a diplexer I think you need, do a google, if no-one gives you a better answer.

Although I think it's better to run two cables, unless there is a real problem with this, as the additional connections and components will increase the attenuation in the Satellite lead unecessarily.

The impedance of ordinary (not necessarily brown, but often is ) Tv Coax is the same as satellite c@ble, i.e 75 ohm. In fact satellite c@ble can be used for ordinary UHF, but no vice versa.

and if you want a card and CAM slot the TM1500CI+ super is probably your best bet.

The 'CI' means that it can take a CAM (for a certain or a number of encryption types). A provider card would then be slotted into the CAM (Conditional Access Module).

The Tm1500CI+ also has a card slot with the CAM embedded into the receiver for 'conax' encryption.

Robbo

Thanks Robbo that all makes sense now, all I need to do is spend some time trawling through hotbird to see if there is any decent programming
While I have your expertise here is Sky a completely different deal? I guess Murdoch has chains on everything, or can you pick it up this way as well?

Sky is nailed down good and proper. Loads of FTA stuff on that satellite cluster though!

The TM1500CI+ also does Viaccess right out of the box too.

Never buy brown coax. It looks cheap even if it isn't  :roflmao:

importedsean ! I hope this experience of being conned by a retailer ! does not make yu think there are many in the satellite retail business are bad. I am shure they was a one off. And will never hppen again. But its always good to be armed with some knowledge especially from a forum such as this. The moderators do a great job, considering they do not get paid for giving help and advice. Well done to the forum !
