Hi!
As everybody knows, if over ASTRA-2 satellite transponder/programming Channel list will be changed sky digibox does not need to be re-tuned.New PID's will be saved automatically ("behind scene")and there will be no visual changes on main TV list. As everybody knows, FTA boxes usually needs to be every time, when Channels are moved, to be re-tuned.Its not hard, end of the day,but needs extra hazzle. I discovered ,by mistake, that Humax CI 5510 or CRCI 5500 acting as Sky digiboxes - they keep channels in TV list, when ever Channels are moved (as lately True movies changed place) so Humax acting as Sky Digibox??? Is there in market more FTA receivers, what can update Channels automatically, without manual tuning? How You call this option? OTA ? I know over Astra-1 satellite - can be used RAPS system. But RAPS does not work over ASTRA-2 (Only Astra-1 and Hotbird) Any help welcome! Cheers! Max |

Hi Max, welcome to the forum :welc1:
To be honest, there is nothing in Europe that than touch the Sky software system IMO - that's true of the automatic firmware updates to the channel listing updates to the EPG updates themselves. That's not to say it doesn't have it's faults mind you - the box itself is a bugger to use on anything other than the Sky package, and it requires that you keep it powered up 24/7! To my knowledge, there is nothing that updates in quite the same way. Yes, there are Over The Air updates for quite a few different Set Top Boxes, but I don't know of any that do this totally 'behind the scenes' - i.e fully automated. There may well be some - I just don't know of any! All the ones I know of are manually initiated, but it is a useful feature. I've found that the service tends to be provided by the manufacturer for a while, and then support ceases as they bring out new models. STICK

Thanks for answering!
Jep,but there is two for sure - Humax CI 5510 and Humax CRCI 5500. I installed about 20 of this models (got them sec.hand very very cheap from some hotel) And no problems at all.About good few months ago People, who had FTA receivers(Smart,Microsat) Sky News lost sound. Humax stays,no problem. Lately, few weeks ago,True movies and PoP,Tiny PoP etc. changed TP.,and all FTA receivers needs to be rescanned,Humax - No problem , stays like a rock. This HumaX is one hell good receiver... |

The only other fta receiver which will auto update is the promised Lyngbox, which was due to be launched in September 2007
ops:However,I cant recall whether it will do this OTA or via the Ethernet connection. |
