Default freeze

hi
i ve got a 1.25 metre dish that I move manually
at present its on 19 degrees east ( I think )

My fixed dish is 60 cm size
I t must have been sky who fitted it in some
deal or other

I get bbc itv etc thru that dish so it must be
on astra ?

anyway suddenly Im getting little pic freeze ups
I was nt worried that much when it was on qvc but
now channel 4 is doing it

itv bbc1 and bbc 2 seem to be ok

I know that sometimes 3 satellites can be serving
one position so is one sat on the blink ?

or ( more likely, ) is it me ?

I ve checked the connections, scart etc
do you think my LNB might be at fault ?

the system must be 5 or 6 years old by now

thanks for any tips

Sounds like it could be the LNB.

If you're happy that all you're cables and connections are fine (especially the co-ax and 'F' connectors), then it only really leaves the LNB or the dish so I would check to see if you're dish has moved any first, just before finally condemning the LNB

Redrobbo, what sort of signal strength are you getting on the various channels?

i ve only seen that signal strength metre
on set top boxes

the pics on bbc 1 bbc 2 itv etc seem good
but on qvc now there are sudden freeze ups that last a second and the odd sqeek in sound

as i say I think that this position is prob
served by 3 satellites, maybe one is not giving
enough strenght to my dish ( it might have moved
slightly etc )

but you re right, if it is nt the cable connections

then its got to be the dish or lnb
spose the sky box is nt to blame

its been 10 years since I ve been on top of this
satellite lark.

wot if I tried to move my big dish to pick up
the bbc itv etc
I think its on astra 19 now
I get sky news, french german even spanish

if im on 19 now wot do I need to get to ?

I think a 1.25m dish is a bit of overkill for Astra 2 but it would certainly prove it was an lnb or c@ble problem

If you want to move it to Astra 2 you will need to move it to the left and down a bit (standing behind it)

To save the hastle though i would just buy a new lnb (pic 3) just to rule it out. You can get them on ebay from as little as a quid sometimes. Unless your dish is an eliptical Sky minidish ( pic 1. Zone 1 = 43cm, Zone 2 = 60cm) I would recommend you stay away from the Sky type lnbs (pic2) as they won't illuminate a normal circular offset dish correctly.

They will work but not as efficiently as a normal type lnb

Hi robbo. There's a (rather out of date, it has to be said) picture of the arc here:
