Other than sneaking an extra lnb on to the main dish, No there isn't any other way satellite wise

They may show some on cable. I know you used to be able to get some of the Rai channels on certain cable company networks before they were swallowed up by NTL/Telewest AKA Virgin media, but i don't know if that is still the case.

You will need to ask Virgin Media mate

Although if the chap has a south east facing wall/balcony, he can possibly use a mini-dish in some 'temporary' manner for Italian channels on, say, Hotbird, no?
