Again cheers for the help, I am going to get on this on pay day for Christmas.

I have another question from reading another noob thread. Would it be possible to split the signal from the sky digital satellite dish at the front of the house and get the UK freeview stuff in the Skystar 2 and the continental stuff from the old dish in the back garden?...that would be the nuts. How could I channel the signal from both the dishes into one Skystar 2?

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Easy,
You just need a Diseqc switch to switch between the dish at the front and the one at the back, and a TWIN Lnb for you sky dish.

The Diseqc switch prob' won't work with a monoblock though, as it already has one inside it. So you would need two separate LNBs, rather than a monoblock if you went for 19E and 13E

Nice one.

I am looking forward to this. I gather I will only recieve free to air stations on the Skystar 2 from the Sky dish, is there a type of PCI card that allows for a viewing card to be inserted?...then could I record Sky TV on my PC?

If so I may get rid of the Sky box and set up a cheap PC in the lounge downstars to record TV.

I am now thinking that Sky installing a second box in houses, Sky Plus and their warrenty cover they offer for their boxes is a rip off.

This site is wicked BTW.

I think, there are PCI cards that can take a card, but not sure.
Even then I don't know whether it would take a Sky card, I doubt it.

With the PCI card though, I expect you can pick-up non FTA stuff from other satellites, with the appropriate plug-ins etc.

I've just remembered the Sky Digital dish is actually 3 foot away from where I am sat, so drilling a hole in the wall should be a doddle. Sticking a Twin LNB on is easy yeah?

I can see me spending much of Christmas in bed watching TV on my PC if I get this sorted.

Yes, on a sky dish it is pretty straightforward to change the LNB. But get an lnb for a Sky dish (TWIN or QUAD).

On mine, you just pull out a plastic pin, and then just slide the lnb out.

A quad or twin lnb, might be a little heavier than the single (it may pull the arm down a touch), so you may need to tweak the dish down a little.

Hello again,

I am just about to buy the Skystar 2. I have looked at the dish at the back and it is pointing slightly south west. It cannot really point east because of how it is attached to the wall. What channels/satellite will I recieve at the moment? Are there charts anywhere? I tried to look at the ones on the site but the links don't seem to be there.

Thanks in advance for any advice

The three sites that I know of are:-

LyngSat - Lyngemark Satellite
FlySat Satellite Home
and kingofsat
