Default Grrr! Cheap cable

Hi guys,
Long time no post.. Finally found time to go about patching my tm1000d. Female to female adapter finally turned up so have plugged in and turned on. Loader can't find box and when I try to install the HidComInst.exe as per the instructions from alsat nothing happens. The pc found the adapter but couldn't install any other driver apart from the one that came with it. Now have a USB-SERIAL CH430 (COM4) installed under device manager but can't do a thing with it. There are 2 laptops and 3 pc's in the house, none with a serial port! Can any one point me in the direction of a driver that will work or if needs be a new cable and driver that will work. This project has taken way too long but as far as sat reception goes all is well. Just need to get me box sorted then I can actually watch something interesting... Cheers in advance..

What do you mean by a female to female adapter?

You want a null-modem cable ( which happens to have a female 9pin on each end).

Bought a usb to 9 pin cable. The cable has a male 9 pin connector. The TM1000D also has a male 9 pin connector. The adaptor sits between the cable and the receiver. All the usb to rs232 cables i have seen are male.. I do have an old Dell knocking around in the loft which I believe may have a serial port. Might just bring that back in to service to do the patching. Does the operating system matter as thiat won't run xp very well..

You must use a null modem cable (9F-9F) between the male end of your USB converter cable and the male RS232 port on your receiver, not a straight-through 9F-9F adaptor.

So I need another cable then. Going back to what it says in device manager is that going to work ok or will that be different with the new cable? Tbf Stick, you did warn me about the usb cable. Going to have to get a Null cable anyway if I get the old Dell out.. How many times can you say cable in 1 post, (and what the hell is the ampersand doing instead of an "a")???!!!

Yes, null-modem is a definite requirement regardless. Then it's just a case of whether the driver software for the USB-serial adaptor is transparent to the loader application.

B*gger me It works Probably the dearest cable in the world, (Maplin), but it works..
Do I need to rescan on the TM after applying patch and keys or is that it? Also is there an English only channels list or do I need to trawl all of them? Was watching Eurosport earlier, (at last!!!), but in German :? Any pointers appreciated, as usual

You should rescan regularly, but the patching shouldn't alter the results of your previous scan.

German Eurosport 12226H is FTA - it doesn't have an English Audio option.

Try something from:

http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/premiere.html

or

http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/dpastra.html

Good to hear your patching was OK
