Also take a look at Clarke Tech receivers, these are very much over looked, but are based on the same specs as the Technomate 5200D USB and 1500 but the Clarke Tech has 10,000 channels and USB input, these are made in the same factory as Technomate. Also they take the same filmware (patches) as the Technomate.

The Technomate 5200D USB has 10,000 channels too.

Apparently he is working on fixing it. @ Joshjess. Do they actually use the same patches? How does one figure out which Techy patch is the correct one for the Clarke Tech? |

Was looking at the clark tech the 2100 is similar to the technomate 1500 but £45 more. The main difference is the USB (which is nice and I wish was on the technomate) and the extra channels but IMHO not worth the extra £45 so will stick with the TM1500 or the TM 5200. I love the fact I can patch it with a USB key rather then having to carry it through to another room where the pc is. A couple of questions though for those more informed then me (probably most on this board - lol)
1) Is the patch for the TM5200 the same one as used by the TM1500? if not then.. 2) Are the patches for the TM5200 as reliable and frequent as the ones for the TM1500 3) Is the CI worth having or is the software of the 5200 so good that I really wouldn't need to buy a super cam Cheers Barney |

1) No it is slightly different because the model is slightly different. 2)Yes as far as I have seen so far. 3)At the moment I think you can get the same as with a super cam, but things are changing all the time. Robbo |

1) Yes, different patch
2) Untested. The 5200 is too recent to know for sure, but the signs look good 3) Only you can decide if you might be willing to pay an extra £60+ for a CAM in the future. As far as watching pay-tv illegally, any receiver is only as good as the providers are bad at securing their systems. The fault reported in the 5200 regarding the recording via USB of pay-tv is a show-stopper as far as I'm concerned until it's fixed. I would strongly advise waiting before buying one of these boxes, unless you don't care about the recording. Fixing this bug is not a formality. Damn! Too slow again! ![]()

Thanks for the super fast replies guys. Just noticed that the 5400 and 5600 come out next week so might just wait for them. Any advice - should I wait or should I just play it safe and get the 1500 - really fancy the USB port I must admit

I think you're going to have to decide for yourself, based on what your own priorities are. Personally, since I already have a 1000D, if I wanted to get another Techy I'd wait for the CI+ version of the 5200D to come out. I think it's a bit of a dilemma at the moment. As being able to upgrade via a USB stick is important to you, maybe you should get that. You have the Echostar to fall back on for CAMS etc. Robbo |

Just spoken to my distributor, he has no word on when he expects the new models!
