Used to be quite keen on Euro satellite tv (6 years ago or so) and going through some things came across my old echostar 2110 so was thinking I might set it up again but had some questions - hoepfully some people can help
1) Should I use the echostar and get a magik cam (or dragon or xcam which?)or get something cheap and well recomended like the Techomate 1500CI which many people seem to really like and at about #80 is within my reach. 2) Can you programme your card and cam in the echostar via the remote control. In the past I had to do it through a loader card via the pc. 3) Any other suggestions? All help appreciated |

Hi Barney,
:welc1: to the forum. All I can say is that the CAM and programmer needed would probably cost about the same as a new receiver, and the TMs are very easy to 'use'. Have a look in this section for CAMs etc http://www.satellitehelp.co.uk/forum...oard,22.0.html Also, you might want to consider a Dreambox, http://www.satellitehelp.co.uk/forum...board,5.0.html VERY popular by all accounts. Hi Barney. Welcome back to the scene!
It's a tough choice, and neither would be a bad idea. If you get a CAM then I would suggest the Diablo. None of the CAMs you mention are worth buying anymore. They've been long outdone by the latest range of 'SuperCAM's. The other one worth looking at is the later T-Rex supermodule 4.6, but support hasn't been as consistent for this when compared to the Diablo. If you want a cheaper option, then the best of the rest is probably still the old Dragon CAM, also known (confusingly) as a T-Rex 4.1. I have to say that my choice would be a new box such as the one you mention. You can always sell it for nearly what you paid for it if you find that satellite doesn't have the same appeal it used to. In short, it's a safe option. STICK

Thanks for the advice folks - dreambox looks quite expensive so technomate 1500 looks really good value. Thanks for the info cards - as I sadi I am totally out of date, might go with the technomate intitally then maybe add a new super cam. Just checking, with the standard technomate 1500 (patched but no super cam) can I get tequilas - if I remember correctly they had great films and always in english
Thanks Barney |

Yes, but not for much longer - apparently, Digital+ are rolling new sub-cards ATM.

The receiver will work, but you won't be able to unscramble the channels unless some one releases a file that can be loaded to unscramble it, but I doubt they will as this is why they are changing their encryption!

Thanks for all the advice folks - sounds like the technomate is a good buy, fingers crossed they don't change the codes too soon.
Where did you buy yours from Alfie and what do you mean 1500 CI "Super"? Looking on ebay I can find patched new 1500 CI's (not "super") for about £90 incluing delivery? Are these good buys? Cheers Barney |

£90 is a good price for the TM1500CI super including delivery ( if you have a link to the eBay one, maybe ask the site sponsor if he can match that price ) |
