Default Finally got HD working!

After spending a stupid amount of time locating and trying just about every codec I could find, I've finally got HD working on my Skystar2. Frame rate is about 15 a second and I'm using 100% CPU power on a P4 2.4Ghz and Radeon 9600 but it's a start

Thats good AceB, well done for persevering.

Which codec did you use? I find that the Coreavc codec seems to use the least cpu effort.

I had similar results on my Athlon 2500 and Sapphire Radeon 9600XT.

It's the Mainconcept codec, the only one that produced a picture in ProgDVB, all the others pushed processing power up but nothing appeared. Now I'm using Mainconcept for all the codecs it's also sorted out the incorrect perspective on 16:9 material I was getting.

Got rid of my SS2 as it would not work well with vista and for hd it is pointless on a screen below 26 inch as my pc screen is on 19 inch but i am going to buy a technotrend hd card this week,

Everybody in this house can see the difference between HD and SD on a 19" computer monitor - but nobody outside of it can. We must be such a weird bunch. The difference is there, really!

Mainconcept yuck.

Go buy CoreAVC or Cyberlink AVC decoder for best results.

ffdshow for SD material, CoreAVC for HD material.

The difference in SD and HD is a function of how close to the screen you sit. There is a definite difference on my 17" LCD monitor.

Unfortunately it is not very good for watching footy or films so I have to watch on my 42" plasma in the other room. Unfortunately I dont have the HD linked to the plasma so I am waiting for a decent linux receiver so I can enjoy HD from the comfort of my sofa.

I'm in the same boat as Jim, but I don't have the TV yet.

HD on my 17" Sony monitor is stunning - totally fantastic. Even my hard-to-impress kids said 'wow' and stood there like idiots just watching the promo loop on BBC HD.
