Default Which setup to be able to get these channels-

Hi Guys,
I live in Ilford-Essex area and am interested in watching Indian/Pakistani Channels.

From doing my reading on your excellent forum I manage to make way to this site which shows the possible channels which are available

http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/Pakistan.html

http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/India.html

My first question is it safe to assume these channels are available in uk without the subscription charge.

Now my felling is I should go for a Motorised system with 80 to 90 cm dish and
Tecnomate box perhaps 1000 or
Technomate TM1500CI

I would prefer if could avoid to go for the motorised system and also go with 60 cm dish if possible,
but you guys can correct me on this even if it mean missing out on few channels.

I would prefer to have the system install professionally so can you suggest any good deals around my area including installation.

Or if any of your sponsor want to pm with quote they are welcome.
Kind regards

From your lists, stuff from Eurobird1, any of the Hotbird satellites, any of the listed Astra satellites and maybe one or two others would be achievable from the UK with a reasonable size dish.

You can check the satellite footprints to see if they cover the UK by clicking on the links in the far right-hand column of those tables.

Many Thanks for you reply.

Does this mean I do not have to go for a motorised dish? and the 60cm dish could do the job.

I was also thinking may I could sign up sky current offer from Dixon of £75 and than just move realign the dish a bit

Hi,
Those are very long lists, and although they're all free to air, only some of them would be viewable in the UK, as STICK has said.
Generally it is possible to 'see' a satellite that is 45 degrees either side of your longitude, and up to about 70 degrees if you can see the horizon. Plus they have to have a 'beam' that covers the UK.

Whether you have a motorised system or not is up to you. If you go through the lists you have, and look at the footprints you will be able to establish what satellites you need to pick up to get the channels you want.

Having said that, you would always get the best choice with a motorised system.

It is also possible to have up to approx 20 degree spread on a single dish, using 3 or possibly 4 LNBs mounted on it.

A single dish with a single LNB will give you the least choice.

The Sky minidish is OK for Hotbird, Astra 1 and Astra 2, but when it rains hard Hotbird and Astra 1 will probably go.

I am unable to reccomend an installer as I installed my own system, the site sponsor apparently can arrange installation for products he sells.

The Sky receiver would be of little or no use for the channels you want, so you would still need to purchase one of the receivers you listed below

I am sorry I am not sure how to look/interperate the footprint information.
I manage to make my way to this but how to interperate is beyond me

http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/hb6.html

But I feel from reading various threads 60 cm dish make a safe bet for most user

The column headed EIRP (dBW) relates to the numbers on the map. So if you lived in say the zone marked 46, you would look across to that column and see that you would need a dish between 60 - 95cm to view this satellite

I would take these maps with a pinch of salt though as they are only really useful as a rough guide.

Hi again,

The footprint maps are interpreted as follows:-
The maps show contours of signal strength.
Each contour line has a number on it representing the estimated EIRP (the power level).
For example, the smallest contour (in pink) has 53 on it, which means everywhere inside that contour will be at least 53dBW
The light blue one ,marked 44, means inside there, the signal power will be at least 44,
and so on.

On the right hand side is an estimate of dish size needed to work with that power level.

So for example if you were at 60E and 50N approx (long and lat) the power level would be at least 42dBW, reading from the table on the right a dish size of 120 to 150cm is needed. The footprints are estimates only, and provide just a rough guide.

There is NO safe bet for most users really. It depends on what sats you want to pick up, ones location, what the weathers like, what time of day it is etc etc. I would say a 1m dish is a much safer bet than a 60cm, and the max allowed without planning permission.

If money, and dish size was not a problem, we'd all probably have 2 to 3m dishes are more, to be even 'safer', to get the greatest choice possible.

You guys are excellent many thanks I can read and understand the foot print information.

For most of my channels my EIRP is > 50

This mean I could go for 50cm dish but I will select 60cm one

With you guys support I may be able to install it myself, however I wonder if it be easy to install mono block lnb or the motorised system.

Which of the 2 would be easier.

Regards

The monoblock would be easier, they come in in 6 and 3 degree varieties. Eg for a 6 degre monoblock, you could pick up Hotbird (13E) and Astra 1(19E).
A 60cm dish is probably the smallest you want to go anyway with a monoblock, because one of them will not be at the dish's focal point.

And yes, if you can use a Hammer drill and a Spanner/Socket set, and have a bit of patience, I am sure that you would be able to do it yourself.
