Default OFCOM to look at making all adult channes pin protected

Due to Ofcom’s serious concerns about levels of compliance in the ‘adult’ sector, by both ‘babe-style’ channels and free-to-air content on encrypted channels, Ofcom is considering amendments to the Code so as to require that all material transmitted in the adult section of the EPG is protected by a mandatory PIN. Any such proposals would be subject to a full public consultation.

Ofcom report 22nd october :

(warning - report contains sexual issues. Do not open the link if you are easily offended)

An excellent idea.

I dont thinks so. Its all part of the parental responsibility to make sure kids dont see innappropriate materials. Why should folks without kids have to suffer the ridiculous and clunky pin system just because some parents either cant or wont protect their kids.

I agree, I have just read about half of that report, and the material discussed is so 'soft'.

Young children should be in bed by 9pm anyway! and if the older teenagers want to look at it, let them. There is far far worse stuff available on the internet. It is up to parents to prevent their children watching. I imagine entering a pin everytime you changed channel would get very tedious.

Dont get me wrong folks - Im not against having a properly configurable pin system to lock out adult channels on sky boxes - BUT it must be user choice that decides whether to use it. Not those ninnies at Ofcon. Theres no kids in our household so I dont see why I should have to suffer pins to stop me watching writhing tarts at half ten at night if I should so wish to. OK have the pins defaulted to on, but make them totally user configurable.

I don't see why there shouldn't be a user-configurable default and then nobody is inconvenienced.

Good idea too. At least it will get all you perv's having to remember numbers. On the other hand if it became applicable to the continental channels then every channel or very nearly would have to be protected.

Hopefully it'll put most of them out of business

most of the adult channels are text in and get your boobs out on sky so thats not exactly one for making them use a pin

the full on stuff is encrypted anyway

so i don't see the point but it would get rid of them essex and northen babe type channels they are dreadful
