Good luck with everything you do m8. Glad you 've been pointed in the right direction.

Hopefully we may see you around. Don't forget to introduce yourself if I bump into you. (my memory is terrible - with or without the medication).

Those boards were left over from joining another forum to Techwatch last year - call me naive, but I'd actually thought there may be quite legitimate uses for these.

However, I'm going to raise the issue with the Techwatch mods as to whether they feel there are reasonable grounds to keep these boards or not - these boards aren't a major part of the site, little used, and probably not really part of the home digital experience.

If helping SatelliteHelp members feel comfortable with the merger means getting rid of a couple of small areas already on Techwatch, I'm happy to consider it.

Can't see them now Brian, have they gone?

I can't think of any? If you lost your code card from your radio, you can give a call to manufacturer and they'll give it to you (at least Blaupunkt does). If you had to replace instrument panel, then the garage who did the job, by law must amend mileage to the real one. If they don't (o couldn't, as was the case with my Renault), they must notify DVLA of mileage display change and stamp it in the service book. I know this as instrument panel in my Renault Scenic failed and was replaced under warranty.

I set the boards to be accessible only by TW staff while I discussed it with them -I figured if there was a danger of publishing obviously illegal content, better to remove it from public view while it was discussed.

I'm under the impression that some manufacturers either charge for radio codes, or have done in the past. Plus there's all the hassles of having to chase up a company and I don't think any of use enjoy holding on call centre staff.

There have been comments about TW being a little bloated, and I'd already marked the Vehicle and DIY categories as little used and better reduced into a single Motoring board and a DIY board.

So I'm going to get that done now, remove any threads that get flagged, and ensure that doing so will change the emphasis of these boards from inviting the wrong sort of people and activity, while still providing a useful outlet for genuine enquiries about electronics/electrics and similar topics.

Hope that helps.

I'm liking the look of this new style forum. But I think it could do with a bit of pruning none the less.

You may want to merge a lot of, if not all of the 'Computers' forums together, as well as some of the others.

I can't wait to move over there now :P ~ Roll on Saturday!

Also, if you need any extra moderators or whatever, I'd be happy to pitch in.
Especially in the Computers section

as long as the site doesn't turn into that Albanian place we all know of then it shall be fine but i thought it was a bit strange to have diy sections on a forum

i'm unsure of the new forum so i'll just see once its all moved over.

There are at least 2 threads with (now expired) keys in them for European providers in the Sat section (Cabo and D+ threads). Thats a big no-no as far as Im concerned, and if you have the VB penalty points enabled Id give 8 for that....
