Default Helloeeeeeee, I'm definitely a newbie with eurosport problems

I write on behalf of my partner who is a Eurosport fan (I am the computer fan). I know next to nothing about satellites and my partner knows just a little more than me. We have a dish etc, (analogue) which was originally purchased at Lidl quite a long time ago and it has been transmitting Eurosport beautifully, until today, it used to transmit other stuff (lots in German) too. Today, we are receiving nothing. My partner is bereft > > > > > > >
as he lives for Eurosport. So with the aid of you good folk viewing this post, is there anything I can suggest to him to rectify this situation? I do hope someone can help him because he is in such a state, I fear for his sanity. We live in West Wales (Tenby) if that is important.

Its possible that they've switched off the analogue transmissions.

Not knowing that much in the area, can you tell us where the dish is pointing?

Hiya Lynda, :welc1: to SatelliteHelp

AnalogueSat is the man for, err, analogue satellite so he will most likely inform you if any channels have left today, though thats a long shot as you say you've lost a few channels I'll have a go anyway:

First things to do would be to check the c@ble and connections (at the dish to), including looking for any signs of water ingress.

If this looks OK, then the next point would be the LNB. Their is no real easy way to test this apart from testing it on a known working system, or trying a known working LNB on you're system.

Also, check the dish for any signs of movement though I don't think dish alignment is as critical with analogue :?

If it's non of the above then that probably only leaves a dead receiver but, if I were a betting man, I would say that it's more than likely a spent LNB

I'm sure that someone with more idea than me will be along shortly

Kev

EDIT: Nice part of the country you live in by the way Remember going on holiday to Tenby about 14 - 15 years ago and it was great. Stayed at a place called Saundersfoot, something like that anyway, really enjoyed it and would love to go back their one day

Hello Lynda. :welc2: :welc1: to the forum.

Analoguesat is our resident analogue guru. He will no doubt be along in a while to help you. In the meantime if you can give a few details of your equipment ie. your receiver make and model number it will help. Can you receive any channels at all?

Yorks

Here is a list of the channels that are on Astra 1 (19.2e) ( should be quite up to date)

http://www.lyngsat.com/astra19.html

The analogue ones are the ones with PAL listed.

Worth a try to make sure you can't receive any of the other analogue channels.

Assuming that all analogue channels have not disappeared overnight, I agree with the others:-
either LNB faulty, dodgy cable, or receiver bu99erred.

Start with the cheapest first: the LNB.

Thank you everyone for your replies, all of the channels have "disappeared" so I am passing your ideas to the man. I hope he doesn't fall off the roof

Again thanks for your help, I'll report back when I have more to report.

Remember what happened to Rod Hull - although rumour has it that he was pushed by the emu.

But seriously, be careful espiacially if you need to climb a ladder. If you are not confident then get someone to do it for you - but with reasonable care you should be fine.

If you have lost all the channels then its definitely an equipment problem. Heres a few things to check

dish alignment (has a kid kicked a ball into the dish - shopuld be obvious if the dish has moved an appreciable amount from the marks on the mount.

has anything blown / got wrapped around the around the lnb on the arm on the dish

has the coax cable got disconnected

has anyone nicked the dish? (Not unknown!)

Is the cable damaged - has a workman nailed through the cable?

etc etc
