Hi all,
I am an ex-pat living in the North of Finland and really need English TV (SKY).. My local sat installers have rigged me up a 1.5 m dish and I am waiting to receive my SHY HD box... The local guys advised that I should aim for Eurobird at 28.5 rather than Astra at 28.2 as they say it gets a better quality signal. My 2 questions are: 1: Do you guys think that is true? 2: What channels can I get and what channels will I miss if I aim for Eurobird rather than Astra? I have looked at the channel line-up on Lyngsat website, but I am confussed as to what I get and what I don't get... I understand it may be hard to get BBC, ITV etc, but can I get Sky 1, Sky Movies, Sky Sports etc on Eurobird (obviously with the correct card). Best regards, Rob.. |

Hi,
Astra 2 (28.2E) and Eurobird 1(28.5E) are considered to be co-located for most purposes, only a very big dish would really be able to focus on one and not see the other Have a look at the footprints here also for what channels are on each:- Eurobird 1 & Astra 2A/2B/2C/2D at 28.2°E - LyngSat All the FTA channels on ASTRA 2 are on 2D, which you probably wouldn't be able to get anyway in Finland. You should be OK with the Eurobird 1 channels. If you have a look at the footprints from the above link, you can see roughly what you might and might not be able to pick up. Robbo

Robbo,
Thanks for the information... So from the footprints it looks like I should be able to receive all the channels from the Eurobird sat and I hope the channels from the Astra "North" beam? Many thanks, Rob |

The footprints are only a rough guide, but if that is what the footprints tell you, then yes it is possible that is what you will get. Local knowledge is more reliable than looking at the footprints.

Hello, I have a question. I pointed my satellite to 28.2, used fastsatfinder and dvb-s card on my computer to verify the signal is strong, it was. When I connected it to the my dreambox, and scanned the Astra 2 (28.2) channels, I got mostly German channels, some Austrian, and a few Spanish (I think). Looking at the channel lineup for Astra 2 and Eurobird 1, I don't see any German TV. How am I ending up getting all the German channels? BTW, when I move through channels it shows 28.2E on the status bar at the bottom, I assume that means I am not on 19E.
Thanks |
