Hi all,
I am looking for some help from an experienced J-Tagger (or anyone who can help). As the title says I have a Euro Vox Max 2006 (3 to be exact). All 3 of these boxes were bought at the same time and all 3 of these now need to be J-Tagged. They all power up but to not switch on (Only standy LED lit). I have now purchased the correct J-Tag Cable and also have the correct software needed. I am having a few issues with these and wonder if anyone can help. I initially used the 'SKYMAX_UP 2.2.EXE' to flash the box. I initially did not have the correct bin or rom file to finish the flash so I left it. As I now have the correct file I need I am trying to do it again. When I now open the 'SKYMAX_UP 2.2.EXE' I get an error message The Parallel Port Could Not Be Opened I have checked the device manager to ensure it is enabled and have also selected every option possible in the DM to try to get it to recognise the box again. No joy same error. Anyone know where this may be going wrong? This is the same issue on all 3 boxes now and I have also tried this on 3 different computers (1 x XP and 2 x 2K). In addition to this I have tried to follow the Tutorial from Alex using JKEYS. I also experience problems when doing this. When I open JKEYS I get 'Error COM1 does not exist' so I go to File > Pref > Change the Interface to Para Port then I get 4 options: 0x378 0x278 0x3BC or Other When I choose 0x378 the JTag info is: Device ID 0xFFFFFFFF Device unknown device When I choose 0x278 the JTag info is the same as above. When I choose 0x3BC the JTag info is the same as above. So as i am sure you can tell I am a little stuck. If anyone can shed any light on these issue please let me know. Cheers |

OK, there could be a few problems all together here.
1) I use Jkeys 1_3_3 or 2_9_11 and not Skymax to Jtag, which version of Jkeys did you use? 2) Are you using a USB to Parallel converter or have you a parallel port on your PC, if so what setting is it at in the BIOS. 3) Which type of Jtag cable have you got, the one with a clip or the one with a battery pack? Lets know the answer to these questions and I'll try and get you going. D |

Your port is correct 'ECP'
There is a problem sometimes with Jkeys not seeing the device first off, a work around is to open Skymax, click on 'START', it will either see the EV or tell you to re-boot the EV, once it sees it close Skymax and open Jkeys, then continue as normal. By the way you might want to have a look at a presentation I put together explaining how to set up the cable, use the different software and the final TV tune in for Jtagging, it's in the Eurovox, Downloads section from today it's called "Jtag How To2". Lets know how you get on. D Last edited by dolphin; 03-11-07 at 04:52 PM. |

When I try to open Skymax is says unable to open parallel port? No matter how many re-boots or re-tries. This is the same when the boxes are connected to different PC's.

I had the same problem, try this, with everything plugged in, run skymax then click on 'start', it will run a small scan then say 'fail', now switch off the Eurovox from the mains then switch back on and click on the 'start' button again(you might need to click this twice), and it should run a longer scan and says 'ok' at the end. Once it says 'ok', close the program and run jkeys, it should all work now.

Sorry for taking so long to get back but I have had trouble trying to Jtag 2 Red box's (not clones), getting the same errors on both - like yours and I wanted to wait until I got them working before I reported back. I have to say that I also Jtaged 2 Black box's at the same time, no problem.
I was very close to crushing the Red ones but I got them in the end (after many, many, many attempts). I had tried to Jtag them all with Jkeys 2_9_11 and I think this is where the problem lies. The Black box's took the Tsop file no problem and were back up and running quickly but this version of Jkeys caused both of the Red box's to hang. I then kept getting errors telling me it could not read the IRD etc., etc. After 2 weeks of trying everything bar throwing them out the window I finally got them flashed using Jkeys 1_3_3. I had tried every combination of starting Skymax, clicking on "Write" and every other button in Skymax, then opening every version of Jkeys I had but I still kept getting errors. Finally after much reading on every site I could find regarding Jtagging I came to the conclusion that the Voltage used to trigger the Jtag lead is very important plus the length of the lead is also very important (as short as possible). I was OK on the length of the lead, so this left me with the Voltage. The type of lead I use is one with a battery pack attached which saves on attaching a clip to the board. I was always careful to use fresh batteries and remove them after use. Yesterday morning I forgot to remove the batteries and had left the lead connected to the board (the batteries run down slightly if left in), when I came home from work I switched on the PC to give it another go, using Jkeys 1_3_3 and bang it worked straight off, no messing with Skymax or anything. 1 box now working again, so for the second box I switched off my PC, connected all the leads up, had power going to the EV then switched on the PC. Went straight into Jkeys 1_3_3 and again it loaded the Tsop file no problem. 2 box's now working perfectly again. Conclusion I have made is: 1) Use Jkeys 2_9_11 on Black Box's 2) Use Jkeys 1_3_3 on Red and Blue Box's 3) Correct Voltage to the Jtag cable is very important 4) Keep Jtag cable as short as possible 5) Try, try and try again, don't give up. Hope you get sorted, like I did. D |
