Default Tuning Help

Hi

I am new to all this so please be patient with me

I have just got myself a Technomate 1500 it is wired up to a sky dish pointing at Astra 19.2E. I want to access the Canal DIgital NL channels via a sub card which is in the post to me at the moment.

After doing a scan of all the channels I can see the dutch channels that I want listed but the signal on them is very weak. On the Technomate setup I have it set to 19.2 and the signal quality is 75% which I imagine would be ok.

Most of the other channels is getting a good signal about 3/4s green.

Does the fact that the channels are Seca encrypted have anything to do with signal being week for these channels?

Hi,
The fact that no card is present will not affect the signal quality.

I'm not sure why you are stating that your signal is weak, when you have a signal quality of 75%, which is sufficient. You won't obviously get a picture until the card is present.
Remember the signal quality reading is just for a particular transonder.

There is one FTA chanel on that package "BVN TV", Can you get a picture on that OK?

I also have a sky dish pointing at 19.2E and I get a signal quality of
72% for Nederland1 (12.515(H)/22.00). What quality are you getting for this channel? Is it very low.

Things to check is can you get both Hi band and Low band transponders,
and both vertically and horizontally transponders. Also recheck dish alignment.
Here is a list of all the transponders on 19.2E
Astra 1F/1G/1H/1KR/1L at 19.2°E - LyngSat

and here are the channels for Canal Digitaal NL
Canal Digitaal Satelliet on Astra 1G/1H at 19.2°E - LyngSat

Thank you for your reply.

I cannot get BVN TV, all i get is the mesage saying No or Bad Signal. Ned 1, 2, 3, SBS6, Veronica and the like are all very low signals. NED1 is only on 18%.

How do I know if I can receive both Low and High Transponders. Or what could cause me not to. As I said before I am new to this so forgive me for asking stupid questions.

Can you get any channels from 19.2E?
Go to satellite setup, and do a scan of the ASTRA 1 ( 19.2E) satellite .

Post a list of some of the channels you are getting, so we can check that you are in fact pointing at the correct satellite.

I can't remember off the top of my head exactly where the breakpoint is between Hi and low band, but if you try one of the fta channels at the top of the 1st lyngsat list and another right at the bottom, this will confirm that you can get both hi and low band. The Vert and Horiz transponders are labeled L or V next to the frequency.

low band example 10832H (includes bibel TV)
hi band example 12640V (includes GoTV)

If you can both of these, then you can get both hi and lo band and both polarisations.

P.S. Being a beginner does not make your questions stupid, we are happy to help

HI Robbo

Some of the channels I am getting are;

B4U Movies, G49, loads of BBCs, BidTV, Brlycream Dai.

There are a lot of channels that say "Free" on the EPG and have a good signal but the only picture I get is a black screen and the "No Audio/Video" message.

Bibel TV comes up with the message "No Audio/Video" The signal seems to be good on it though at least 72%.

GoTV only has 14% signal and is displaying the message "No or Bad Signal"

My box is not patched. Would that make a diffrence.

Your dish is pointing at the satellites at 28E! You need to realign it onto the satellites at 19E.

Yes, I concur with Analoguesat, you have your dish pointing at the wrong satellite. If you go to the satellite setup, and select 19.2E and the transponder that the BVN channel is on that I mentioned before,
then go out side and very slowly swivel the dish right (from behind) until you get maximum qualilty on that transponder, then swivel it up a bit as well. Maximize the signal quality on that transponder. Once you have the sig quality, a satellite rescan will be needed, as your channel list is bu99ered up by scanning whilst pointing at the wrong satellite.

It might be worth marking your current position with tippex or something so you don't forget where you were. You should only need to move it right by about 9 degrees.

P.S you may find the arc diagram in this thread by AS useful:-

I was hoping it would be something like that

All day ive been messing about with that thing as well

I thought because the Technomate was set to 19.2E and I had moved the dish a bit that it was now pointing at 19.2E I will try again tomorrow.

Thanks for your help guys.

Hopefully I will be able to help Newbies one day!

You shouldn't have too much of problem, the signal from the Astra1 sats are pretty strong, and having a sky minidish, you probably won't find anything in between 28.2E and 19.2E as the dish is too small.

Before I got motorised, I used to jog my dish between those two sats every day, in a couple of secs, and still get a picture on the channels I wanted without adjusting the dish elevation ( not optimised but it worked!) If I recall, on my zone minidish, the position of at the bracket moved wrt to the nut and bolt by about a cm.

Not quite robbo - Astra 1E at 23.5E should be an easy catch too - and if Eurograham looks for 11914H 27500 3/4 he should find 10 Dutch regional channels as strong as anything

Eurograham - its an easy mistake to end up on the wrong satellite - and we have all done it more than once I assure you. The same frequencies are used on the various satellites around the arc so its easy to set a dish up pointing at the wrong one and get an unexpected set of channels scan in when you think you have it all set up!
