Thumbs down Batten down the hatches in northern UK

There is a severe weather warning in force for Scotland & NE England effective late Thursday into Friday. Severe N/NW gales and heavy rain with the possibility of snow at times.

The Met Office is forecasting a period of very windy weather over northeastern parts of the United Kingdom during Thursday and Friday. The strongest winds are expected during Thursday, with northern and eastern Scotland most at risk. Severe north to northwesterly gales with peak gusts of 70-80 mph are expected, bringing a risk of disruption to transport and power supplies. Some damage to buildings may also occur. Disruption will be exacerbated by heavy showers which will turn to snow at times, especially over higher routes. This warning will be updated by 1100 Wednesday 7th November 2007.

The snow is forcasted to ly at 300m so most of us will be ok, I haven't got my pole in the ground yet for my 90cm so again safe there, Aberdeen are playing in the Uefa cup tonight so it will be perishing for the supporters, I'll be in my armchair.

I looked the webcams and it's not snowing in Aberdeen or Dundee. It's blowing a bit in Paisley but seems to have lessened. Barometer is at 1000 Millibars and rising ever so slightly here in Paisley where it has also been sunny. Dishes are holding fast - my larger one is a mesh dish so the wind goes through it.

Near Inverness it's been windy as hell, and very icy with it, too.

Still, I guess better than the 5 foot tidal surge down south.

We have had a bit of wind in the mids today and heavy rain (I got soaked) The east coast of England are on flood alert due to a surge tide, the highest in 30 years is expected early tomorrow morning

So much for forcasts, snow lying this morning and it is 2.5 degrees and I have paving slabs to lay this weekend.
