Question Eurovox HELP !!

Hi...just registered so new to all this kind of stuff.

One of the reasons for joining is that i want to get a Eurovox or Starview box to 'get all the channels for free'.

It looks like a mine field though. So many boxes to choose from and many problems can occur with the firmware etc. Can anybody out there point me in the right direction of what to get and where to get it from. Not at all 'technically minded' so would it be easy enough to cure any problems i might have ?

Please help !!!!

Hey, I wasnt clue'd up on these boxes either but a quick look around this forum gives all the info you need!

As for which box to choose, I went for the Eurovox 2008, £115, and the only problem I had was with low signal which was easily sorted with a visit to this forum. Its a straight plug it in and watch, couldnt have been any easier to set up. My parents have one and they are the least technical minded people I know and they've found it easy to cope with.

As for curing any problems you have, you have this place to turn to

I'm sure someone with more experience will be able to give you a better reply, but just thought i'd give you my experience when I was in the same position as you not so long ago

Dont supose you can recommend the seller can you. Loads out there and dont want to get a cloned box !

Can i take it you just cancel your NTL subscriptions and plug in then ?

Sorry for the daft questions but like i said its information overload. So much to take in / find out so would rather go on recommendation.

Thanks again

I got mine off ebay, from "xs-sales"

Find EUROVOX MAX 2008 V CABLE BOX-EURO VOX 3 V*NEXT DAY P+P* on eBay within, Cable Boxes, Satellite Cable Freeview, Consumer Electronics (end time 11-Nov-07 22:45:00 GMT)

I've had four off them and not had any problems. The auctions on £130 but they accepted £115 as my offer. Not sure if they have the latest firmware on their boxes though. As a general rule of thumb go for a seller with a high feedback of the boxes, theres a few around. I'm sure lots of other people can recommend sellers too.

I think, not 100% sure so will have to check with someone else, that you need a live NTL line - so you have to have a subscription with them. For example have their lowest package which I think is just £11 a month (Phone + Free TV).

If you already have an NTL subscription then downgrade it to the lowest TV (which is free size M) and plug in your box. Job done

You will still need to subscribe to some sort of service otherwise they could disconnect you. (You need a live feed).
You will need a splitter and a few F type plugs in order to connect the box to your cable feed. Also a null modem cable (RS232) for future firmware updates. This is usually supplied with the box.
There is plenty of help available on this forum if you get stuck.

I've just moved into my new home and noticed a NTL box (White junction box) on the wall, does this mean i have a live feed? I suppose my question is do i still need to subscribe or can i just plug and play?

If i can get out of paying the basic subscription i'll do my best, Cable TV has sucked money from my pocket for the past 12 years, i want some pay back

Thanks in advance

Hi...me again ! Was talking to a friend last night and as 'combover1066' says it is best to keep subscibing and put a splitter on because if you disconnect your old box, NTL's line will recognize this and stop your service.(like cable broadband the line keeps searching for an address)

My question is if i put a splitter on what is the name of the cable and connections i then use to attach from my splitter to the new box and do you get thes in your package??. Then when i do the scan for channels with my new box...do i keep my original box turned on as ive read somewhere that you might get problems using a splitter !

Is this true...

Oh, also can you please tell me if these Eurovox V Max has a hard drive in them or is that on another model.

Yes do not use it without a splitter as they send updates to your box and expect a reply back from your original box. I have two euroboxes but I still have the V**n box connected up.
