Hi
I ran an external disk using a linksys nslu2 (linux) as a network drive on my router. After I gave up running the unit, as it was unreliable I formatted it to ntfs and have been using it for a few months. I connected it acronis to save an image, and it showed that there are still 2 linux based partitions on there. I downloaded a ext3 reader and this confirmed this. How do I get rid of these partitions? I ahve data on them that I would lke to keep. Will anormal format do this? cheers |

If you get all the data from the drive, and format the disk again with one large partition, you should be fine. If for some reason, it won't let you format due to permissions or some other weird thing, intentionally corrupt the hard drive , then you should be able to format it easily.

m8 why get rid of them ?, if they are not causing a problem, and you can access the data on them why go to the trouble of deleting the partitions, its just as safe on one partition as the other, a tip if you want to read any partition with both os's then format a partition using the fat32 file system, linux and windows can both use this. cya.

Get yourself a copy of partition magic and you should be able to solve the formatting issue, i know its a windows soulution, but it a good one, since you can format it in a number of different ways. including linux file format. there are a number of linux add ons that can read from ntfs, but may have trouble accessing mydocuments, other than that it can read ntfs(windows).
