As one of the old SH forum admins known for being rather outspoken, let me make this completely clear once and for all - Chances are that without the merger SH wouldnt have lasted very long anyway - it was far too much work for the owner and he wanted his life back..

The "SH section" is a major part of the new operation and whilst Im sure all the old SH members have had reservations about the new operation, (I certainly did) most of us are making the best of it.

Yes the old forum was something special to the gang - we all had a lot of fun on it, but thats not worth diddly squat if it had closed down completely.....

I for one appreciate the wearm welcome we have had here since the merger, and remember its been difficult for the existing staff and members to integrate with the sat loving weirdoes who swamped their forum. Brian (the new owner) has bent over backwards to accomodate the new forum, and many of the changes made to the forum since the merger have been made in SH's favour

Yes Im sure there are parts of the forum you wont like or want to use - I have no interest in the cable section, but I just totally ignore that section (and Ive given everyone the means to do the same in their forum searches by working out how to exclude sections from the "last 24 hour search" which I use in my favourites - its posted higher up the list if anyone is interested - and Im quite happy to expand the exclusions further for anyone who wants it.)

SH as an independent operation is gone, so lets look towards the future.

However at the end of the day if anyone cant make the new combined format work for them, then there are dozens of other forums out there that will welcome your membership...

Hey, if anyone misses SH, that's absolutely understandable - I know what it's like when community's change, and I really do know how weird it can feel, and how hard it can be to be positive about changes.

The SH staff have been doing an amazing job trying to rebuild features from SH here - not least the old photos, which couldn't be transferred automatically, so have had to be put in manually.

I'm not going to claim that TW is SH, equal, or the same - but the same people are still behind the wheel, albeit with a few more beside them, and everyone is doing everything they can to help make things feel more settled and relaxed as the site expands and grows.

I've also made a point of rejecting paid sponsorship on the site because I would rather people feel comfortable here, than be seen to sell out to advertising.

I guess what I'm saying is that even if you don't like the change - and that's very understandable - we're trying to do everything we can to make the change work for the better.

And more importantly, if there's something here you'd like to see change, or any other issues you'd like to raise, you are absolutely more than welcome to - I'm really not averse to criticism.

Thats not a fair question simply because each site had / has its strengths and weaknesses - as every web site does

As a former admin on the old site who regularly caused (mainly accidental) havoc much to the amusement of the membership () I miss the old site and the old ways of doing things. Of course I do - we had a lot of fun on SH in the 2 years or so of the forums life. However things are slowly integrating between TW & SH and I dont think things are too bad here at the moment.

The satellite section will recover in time an new members will join up - you never know this time next year the sat section may be dominating the entire forum!

It's just as friendly, in my opinion as SH was, and whilst some us, including myself, have no interest in c@ble, many do so their problems are now catered for. Keep up the good work and wishing everyone a great Christmas (there, I've said it, not winter festivals or any such rubbish!) and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

I have been following this thread with interest. While I agree with most things said.I am now getting used to the site. The first thing that I do after logging on is look at todays new posts.Sometimes plenty of scolling is involved untill I find sat related questions. But there are a lot of forums. Also people like me don't ask as many questions because we find them on the forum. But I do enjoy reading questions and answers, and I wish there were more.I have looked at other satellite forums but I prefer this one.
