Hi All,
There is one thing troubling me about these Sly Cards In Europe outfit. Why did they say that he would need to change frequencies. I take that to mean the the broadcast frequencies change for broadcasts to Libya, That in my humble is cobblers, Sly would not take up the extra transponders needed for that to be the case. I suppose what I am trying to say is that I would be very careful about taking advice from that source. Just my thoughts on the subject. It should be possible to get BBC world and BBC prime from other sats, but that would not be what Libya Mick wants. Another thought I have had is that it should be possible to get BBC from the net, I have heard of guys in the states getting RTE, the Irish Broadcaster, from the net. Very best regards Wez

"Changing frequencies" will be changing the box settings so its looking for the default transponder stream on the south beam. Southern Europe has difficulty getting the north beam frequencies that the boxes are programed to automagically scan on bootup so you have to change it.
The problem is that the box doesnt remember this setting so it has to be reapplied every time the power goes off.......

Thanks Analogue,
I fully understand what you are saying, I find that a very annoying thing about the Sly boxes, they are fixed on that 11.778 V 27599 2/3. The fact that the only Symbol Rate you can use is 27500 or 22000 is another pain. I never thought about the need to change the default frequency on the Sly box. Very best regards Wez

The problem out here is that whoever you talk to that provides satelite equipment they think that you are talking about Sky Europe and try to sell you an Orbit package and no matter how many times you try to explain that I need to recieve the UK sky signal it just does not sink in.
UK Sky boxes out here is not heard of and when you go on about sky plus and what it will do then they understand landing on the moon better. I must have visited at least twenty installers and they keep going on about Sky Europe and this is no good to me. My thoughts are that only a 3.5 mtr dish will pick up the all the channels required and the cost implication of buying one that size here in Libya is just not worth it. Also during the evening I can get some channels for instance the crime channel but then in the day I loose it and visa versa on other channels. This winter has been bad out here with a lot of low cloud and rain and this also makes the signal very infrequent. Best regards. Mick. |

Mick you might find a Sky Italia subscription a better deal. Whilst you wont get the BBC ITV C4 or C5, many of the channels have dual language options, and you wouldnt need a silly sized dish for 13E in Libya

No C4 then I am on the way to a divorce as the other half would kill me.
Seriously though you make good sense and I am considering taking the Italia option. Electricity supply is also a problem and without a surge protector then the box blows so easily trouble is fitting one means the thing trips out at least six times a night. Depends on what area of Tripoli you live in as for me I am in the country side outside of the city and supply is infrequent. Best regards. Mick. |

Get a small ups (uniterruptable power supply) It will clean your power supply up and keep the sat box on when the power goes out.
