Default Help with dead clone :(

When i bought my eurovox max clone, i didnt even consider that there might be clones, so naturally sought the cheapest I could, and 2 months ago it arrived, and has worked quite well since. It has occasionally turned off on its own, or got stuck on a channel, but I figured that end of the day its a cheap box

Then about a week ago, screen went blank, made a few noises (through tv) and froze.

Pulling the plug out didnt help.

Plugged it back in next day and after a few plug in/plug out's, it started up. Lasted for about 30 mins then off again.

It's been working for varying lengths from 30 mins to a whole day, until yesterday, where it now refuses to power up. I've continuously tried unpluggin/plugging and i either get the two dots (between hours and mins), that and standby light on, or nothing.

I then discovered there were clones while reading today, and have identified mine as one

Is there anything I can try? what does the button on the mainboard do (or supposed to do?), I dont have an rs232 cable, but may buy one.

Pleeeease help

This is just my opinion you understand, you could I suppose go through the jtagging procedure,"lots on that in the forum " but not sure its worth it,clones are built to a price and as such use very cheap components etc,in short they are a rip off ...have you thought about contacting the seller ? since its not very old,you just might be lucky but dont hold your breath....if it were me I think I would be cutting my losses and buying one from lincsat perhaps in his sticky on this forum...he's very reasonably priced thats for sure and he posts on here every day ....the button on the board you ask about is a reset button, which I believe resets the box to factory conditions you could give it a try I suppose....

to be honest, I dont think i'd buy a eurovox again, the lack of widescreen was a real dissapointment for me, and had I realised before I bought the clone, I would never of bought one. I cannot believe that these boxes are popular!

I agree. Its a shame that your bad experience has put you off.

I've had my vox for nearly a year and its fantastic. I only recently heard about the clone issue and have been reading about ways you can tell if yours is a clone. Mine seems okay. This don't help with buying one of course as need to see in through the vents to look for signs.

I'm looking at investing in a new Eurovox 2008. Any suggested reputable sellers?
