Default Modem Problem - Has Anyone Sorted It

Hi All,
I have been reading all the various posts above downed modems etc.
I must be honest Im finding it all a bit confusing - all the different advice etc.

My moded 250 went down and I have spare 250 which I dont whant to connect as the same will prob happen...
Question is - Has anyone found a proven method to combat modem going down and if so I would appreciate a idiots guide
Many thanks

If it has original firmware on look for the file called "How to flash an unmodified virgin modem to work on original firmware" in the Downloads.

If it has the Infinite firmware on it, there is a Guide and Files to put original firmware back on - or you can just change the Telnet login details for now.

A Bricked modem like that needs the TSOP chip lifting and reprogramming - the chip is surface mounted, about the size of a postage stamp with 48 solder connections. Not the job for an in-experienced solderer.

Right, I'm confused, please excuse my inexperience! This is my first modem hack I've got a 250 and the haynes manual and I'm pretty confident I'll be able to follow that through as I have experience modding other systems (Xbox's etc.). However, I'm not sure how I should be hacking it. From the looks of things I'm assuming that I can install the infinity firmware, force the config file and then change the telnet login details, is that the case or is there another way I should be approaching this? Is it possible to keep the original firmware and force the config file through using a max232 cable so as to avoid detection by Virgin?

hi , i have a 255 and about this detection by virgin i have been using it now for 6 months , a friend had it for 18months b4 that, its still going though now i know how to do it[flashing them]..i connecting max interface and loaded c0nfigu**tor, and it says my config is unreg.cm
surely this means i shud not get internet access , but i do , and have been for above times, i thought i better leave it like that is it may avoid detection for a lot longer so i aint forced config,
i did force config on a 250 i have and it run alot faster, has any1 seen this before!!!
i dont know what the unreg 1's running at!!

if you are going to put Infinite firmware on make sure you dont put it in the stream till you do the commands first or they will fry it, i been running 1 for years without props
