Default Going for the cheap option

Hi

Being new to this cable receiver game, I've decided my best bet is to go for a cheap option to start with...
My thinking is,
I've alot to learn about the technology.
I'd like a HD compatible box, but I'm happy to wait for availability to improve.
Maybe moving house in the near future so cable may not be an option there.

Allowing for this I've had a quick look around, and feel quite happy that something like the Starview will do the job, I want to just plug in, scan and go. The prices seem sensible for a temporary solution. If anyone can suggest somewhere/one who can do me a deal on one then I'd appeciate the information. Or please tell me I'm daft and should go for a XXX now!!!

I've had a rummage about and I remember I sensibly wired our house extension to give a feed for a cable box if required. I have a splitter bought from Screwfix, item number 63654, is this ok to use?

If all OK, then sometime next year I'll look to upgrade to hdmi (in my case converted to dvi) receiver with twin tuner/pvr/hdd facility, to make better use of our 50" rptv.

Thanks again for your help

Your better off going for the eurovox with a big screen tv, theres good support on here for them, lincsats nick nack shop on here does a good deal on them, no clones.

As said above Eorovox is your best bet. Ive now got 2 from lincsat. Top quality gear. And lots more backup than the other boxes!

Hi

Thanks for your replies, I guess saving a few quid now, may not be the best route, I don't want to embark on too steep a learning curve.

It seems like a certain shop, advertised on here will be getting an order very soon!

Thanks again

Hi

Just a quick update, I bought a secondhand Starview from Ebay, for a total of £57.
Did an install, have 270 odd channels including radio, very happy.
Problems none, remarks... not keen on EPG, picture not quite as good in comparison to my Freeview box, but overall really happy with my introduction to these receivers.

In conclusion, I'm hooked, and looking forward to a HD/PVR upgrade in the near future.

Thanks for your help
