Smile Re: Linux STB's

Apologies for my stupid questions but earlier in this thread it mentions that I should get a wireless systems that connects at a minimum of 54mbps. Is that to do with the speed that my wireless network speaks to my computer and not of course anything to do with download speeds?

Do you think that a complete newbie like me could set up a network for a linux box or should I call an expert in ?

Yes 54mbps would be the maximum speed of your wireless network.

This is diffferent to the download speed which is determined by how good your connection to the internet is.

Setting up a wireless connection for a PC, is pretty easy.I know nothing thing about networks, but all three of my laptops seem to work OK.

For a Linux box, sorry, I don't have a clue.

Routers normally have some wired ports as well, so you could plug your liux box in with wires.

The router and linux box should make virtually no difference to your internet speed. A wireless connection can slow things down a little, I think due to dropped packets, although with a strong signal you should not notice it.

The linux stb makes very little demand on the internet connection.

Hi, you need to start a new thread with your problem, and provide a lot more information than you have, for someone to help you.

Hi Ninjafarmer, can you tell us a bit more. Which stb do you have and how is it connected to the internet and your PC?

From there we will start a new thread and I will be only too pleased to help you if I can.

This game is a hobby and we are all here to learn and help each other. Its not much fun if you have a programmable stb and have to rely on someone else to keep it working.
