I used to have one of their first mp3 players/recorders, was a great player, very rugged design with it's rubber corners, lasted way longer than my first ipod, and 20gb at the time was HUGE!

I think Archos is the unsung hero of portable media really, it's often over looked in favour of the Microsoft Zune and Creative Zen's of this world.

Their video players look great too, how do you find it? what formats does it take?

Hi, i just use it to record films etc .It has built in freeview and has a duel ariel feature for great reception. I record any shows or films onto its hard drive to watch anywhere, even on a plane. It has 40gb memory though you can buy them with 100gb.Im new to these gadgets, but will have to learn how to use it to record when connected to sat box, dvdplayer and other video sources. As for formats im a bit green on this subject, but in the manual it mentions mpeg-4 sp, mpeg-2 mp,wmv9sp and all sorts of file formats which is all above my head. Its a great device and i'll enjoy learning. Its rrp was £480 when launched, i got a new one on ebay for£186 from a german guy, well chuffed. It has a 7"screen.

I had one of the ArchosX200 (or something like that) silver things. The hard drive went on it. Damned cheap lump of cr&p

Hi,
About 6 yrs ago I bought an Archos Jukebox and liked it but it failed to last the year - fortunately Amazon gave me a replacement - Creative Nomad - and that was as good apart from the slippery shape.
The key to these 2 is sound quality. Junk the ipod.

I used them to record digital radio which I subsequently edited and kept all in wav form to retain quality.
