Default Blind search??

Hello,

What is 'blind search' good for?

I'm under the impression that it's for a motorized dish.

Btw, I found a shop (Sonicolor Sevilla, S.L. - Tu Tienda Profesional - Contigo desde 1980) very near my house so I should be getting my equipment from there at the end of this month. ABOUT TIME! If I say so myself.........

Hi,

Blind search is an automatic way of finding the transponders and channels on a particular satellite. Not just for motorised systems.

A 'normal' scan utilizes a transponder list stored in its memory. The receiver just goes through the list and sees if can find any channels.

A'blind' scan on the other hand, doesn't need a transponder list. It just starts at the lowest frequency and sweeps its way up to the highest frequency.

On the way it finds all the transponders, their details, and all the channels on them.

The blind scan is also called 'power' scan.

It is useful for finding 'feeds' and for when new transponders appear, that the rec' doesn't have in its list.

A blind search/power scan will also pick up a load of crud. Such as internet/data/download channels etc.
Another problem associated with blind search/power scan is that it will pick up channels from close adjacent satellites. For example, when scanning Arabsat (26east) quite a few channels from 28east and 23.5east are likely to be picked up. Likewise when scanning Amos (4west) channels from 5 west will be picked up. Again when scanning Nilesat (7west) channels from 8 west will be picked up. That is just a few examples
As a consequence, after a blind scan/power search of a satellite one then has to delete all the unwanted channels that have been picked up.
Other than that, it is great for finding feeds and other channels as robbo71 mentioned.

I prefer to get the transponder listings from Lyngsat and do it all manually

Yep madrad, been doing that for years, just pointed out some pro's and con's of blind search/power scan. Usefull at times as most channel lists/transponder lists stored in boxes seems to be sooooo out of date when you get a box.

Yes Blackhawk quite true, I must get round to deleting all that scudaa.
Only up to 4000 so far, so got a bit of space yet.
Still a great feature though, I think. Especially if Lyngsat is not quite up to date.

Thanks fellas!

Looks like it has it's good and bad points.

Anyway, it looks like I'll be getting the 'mvision s-4 usb', which has blind search. From what I've read it seems alright and it's well priced.

Cheers

John

I use joshyfun - perhaps a week or so out of date - but convenient to print out.
