Default where is freesat

I find it harder to believe that Freesat is set to launch in March 2008, correct me if I'm wrong but thats only 4 months away. Where is the publicity? where is the information.

I agree that Freesat is under-publicised and poorly marketed thus far. That's why I've dedicated my new info-site to it (and other free telly). The bandwagon hasn't really got rolling on Freesat yet, but with all the high-profile staff now in place it shouldn't be long before the PR machine gets rolling.

Don't think that the Freesat PR machine will be that big though. Satellite TV is going to be called 'Sky' for the next few years at least.

Question Re: where is freesat

I already have Freeview built into my Toshiba 28 incher. Will Freesat be receiveable on Technomates, for instance or will there be yet another dedicated box which cant't do any more, does anyone know?

At the moment an official announcement has not been made. But there will be dedicated boxes available. There are unconfirmed reports that it will be in the 'clear'. The boxes will incorporate a dedicated Freesat EPG apparently.
Hopefully we'll be ok with the TMs and other FTA receivers.

You have been coned, the first generation of Integrated TV's and freeview boxes will not work after 2017 because they will be changing the freeview format so they can broadcast HD. If ofcom weren't just in it for the money they would not be selling off the freed up frequency's after switch over and could use these to transmit free HD.

2017?

HD on Freeview will probably start in 2009, though it's unlikely that mpeg2 will be killed off for quite a while after that. I should think it will be a distant memory by 2017 though.

trouble is by 2017 most integrated TV will still be working. I just find it very annoying that they are going to start changing the freeview platform by 2009. and people have spent sometimes thousands on an integrated TV. Considering the dragged out half a freeview service they have already had to put up with.

If Sky get their way and change part of Freeview to Encrypted Mpeg4, then the built-in Freeview's will be instantly obsolete - even TV's sold today!
