Default Lost channels & stuck on data update

Hi everyone,

Just joined this great forum. Everyone seems very helpful. I have a problem and I would appreciate if someone could take the trouble to help me.

I have a genuine Star View receiver bought a year ago. It is NOT The Box/ Star View 2. I have read the guidelines on this site and checked that it is a genuine one and not a clone one. The firmware is API Ver 2.57e_E , boot Ver 7.0 , 16 Aug 2006.

The Problem: Recently I lost all my channels except the freeview ones (BBC1, 2, etc); I have a green $ sign in front of the other channels. I have already read several posts on this Forum and done the following but I still don't get the channels :
1) hooked it up to the PC and downloaded the update successfully.
2) re-connected to the TV and re-set the emu to "ON" position (in the secret menu) but did not work.
3) re-scanned the channels but did not work.
4) re-set to Factory Settings but did not work.
5) visited "Codes R Us" site and noted down the Key Codes for the providers, then entered codes for keys 00 and 01, saving each time. Still no joy.
6) downloaded the update again but still no joy. However, I have noticed that after each download the emu has stayed on the “ON” position but I expected it to have changed to “OFF” which is what I had been told !

In addition to not having the non-free channels, when I exit out, at each of the above steps, the systems starts updating the data with increasing percentages and keeps repeating it and does not come out of the loop until I press exit and Menu.

Another issue I have is that I am not sure who the original cable provider in our area was - either Telewest or C&W. (current provider NTL ). I have scanned for channels under Telewest and ex-C&W; although it picks up lots of channels for each but in both cases the non-free channels are still locked. When I scan under NTL I picks up no channel. I all cases, whenever I enter Nagravision in the secret menu NTL is always shown as the provider, I presume because NTL is the current provider for our area. I put in manually the codes for keys 00 & 01 for NTL but it didn't work. In Nagravision, I then changed the provider to Telewest and put in Telewest’s codes for 00 & 01, saving each time but still didn't work. I did the same with Ex-C&W but still had no joy. Should I be upgrading the firmware ? If so, how and where do I get the firmware; I couldn't find anything on this site. I would really appreciate if anyone could PLEASE help as I can't think of anything else to do.

Additional information to my problem: I forgot to mention that I live in Hertfordshire (WD3 postcode), in case it makes a difference with regards to the providers.

More than likely the codes you have are incorrect, as you stated you have a genuine Starview 1, (or at least you presume you have), the latest firmware for this is version 4 you can get that in the downloads section, this will autoroll the keys for you no matter what provider you have.

If you have a problem getting it I will send it to you.

Yes, I would be most grateful if you could please send me the codes for all three providers ( i.e. NTL, Telewest & Ex-C&W ). I am not sure the codes I have entered are the latest ones. Did the codes change on or around 19th October 2007 ?

Thanks

Satsmo, I have now done 10 posts and hope to download the firmware you have mentioned above. However, I am not sure where to find the file on this site. Should I be going to the Forums > then the Cable Section > then FTA downloads > then where ???

What exactly is the name of the file I should be looking for ? As it is my first time is it possible to give me a link to it ?

Thanks
