Default what is the advantage of booster with masthead power?

hi,

i have been trying to refine my setup to get a better picture. originally i had my signal split using a normal booster but i was finding that there was some noise and ghosting on the 2nd tv, it's about 70ft or so from the booster.

today a friend of mine let me borrow an amplifier that said it included masthead power, the signal on the 2nd tv was amazing compared to my normal booster.

can anyone explain the difference between these and is it possible to get a booster that has the masthead power distribution to 3 rather than 1?

A masthead amplifier goes at the masthead near the aerial, I've seen 4 way masthead amps. The power unit goes at the bottom of one of the cables and sends the power for the amp up the cable. The advantage of amp'ing at the masthead is that it compensates for cable loss.

It's possible you haven't got an amp at the masthead, but are using a distribution amp that can power a masthead. In which case, it's just a better amp that can handle a higher signal or has a higher gain.
