Default Motor Problems

Hi

I recently purchased a motec sg2100a motor of ebay. I am in the process of installing it but the motor has gone dead on me. I think i have a house that blocks me from getting a signal on 1wThor so i tried to do it via 13e Hotbird (i am not really sure because i don't know how high something has to be to be blocking the signal) I managed to get that working so i then moved the dish to 19e and that worked fine to. I then decided to try 1w but got no signal. Thinking it was probably because of the house at then bottom of my garden i went to 30w but got no signal there. Obiously i hadn't quite set it up OK. My problem is however that when trying to move the dish back to 13e it stopped midway. I have checked the connections and taken them out and put them back in. That didn't work. The motor has a green light to indicate it has power and makes a clicking noise when instructed to move but doesn't move.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Does it move when you press the manual button on the bottom? Have you tried with the LNB disconnected.

As Lincsat says, it should move with the manual buttons on the motor.

Make certain that the core wire of your 'F' connector, both at receiver end and motor end is long enough to make a good connection with the female socket.

Also if your receiver allows it, try the 'goto X' command to send the motor to it's reference position.

If you have tried the obvious and it still doesn't work than it could be faulty.
You might have bought a cloned one.

The site sponsor sells those motors just as cheaply as Ebay.

I have tried moving it directly form the motor and the same thing happens. I just had another go at it after leaving it for 10 mins and it worked for about 5 - 10 seconds?

I have no idea what that means

It is probably a faulty motor, it could be that the receiver is faulty though as that is where the power comes from.

You could, at your risk connect 12V to the motor Receiver input and try again with the buttons.

These intermittent problems are often associated with cable/connector faults,
but if you are certain that your connections are all making good contact then as Robbo71 says - it is possibly a faulty motor, or less likely - a faulty voltage supply from the receiver. There is also a reset button on the motor. I would recommend that you try that also, as a process of elimination.

Thanks for the tips guys. I think i might check the connections again just to make sure before i try and get my money back on the motor. When i turn the receiver on a green light comes on on the motor so there is power getting to it. If one of the connections is slightly loose will that cause these problems?

It could do, best to check as you said to make sure. An LED only takes a miniscule amount of current like a few mA, wheras as moving motor a couple of hundred or thereabouts.( the receiver should be able to deliver up to 500mA).

I am hoping it is the cable connections as i really don't want the hassle of getting another motor. Just a thought would the quality of the coax cable make any difference. I am using the cable i got when i bought the dish which i guess is the most basic cable you can get. Would it be worth me trying it with some better quality cable?
