Default losing channels

Hi All
Ive had my mate on the phone leathering my ears as his eurovox max 2008 is losing all his channels.
He is in a wellywest area and im in nthell.
We both got boxes at the same time 3 months ago, mine is 100%.
We tried factory reset and scanned channels in my area, all okay for 4 hours or so.
When he scanned back at his wellywest house all channels okay but started losing them within hours.
We both have Sept fw. Is it possible to reset the box and reload the firmware back in to see if that helps. I read about a reset button inside the box.
Does this remove all the existing fw.
And to cheers you all up with a funny.
My mates wife is having kittens, she thinks its because there is a virgin media call centre round the corner and they are on to them.

Cheers

Snedda

Strange one this ....we all lose the odd channel or two from time to time, but usually its only because they have moved frequency, and they are still ther but under a different name...but you are saying he loses them all ? to me then that sounds like a memory problem inside the box perhaps? in any case if you have only had the boxes for 3 months are they not under guarantee? and a contact made with the seller might help....on the other hand it could be local conditions in his area causing the problem...does he subscribe to Virgin or is he just using a redundant cable to his premises? if he is subscribed to Virgin is his set top box working ok? if he isnt subscribed to Virgin then it could simply be that the signal coming down his feed has deteriorated for some reason, you take your chances doing it that way anyway, nothing is guaranteed and you cant complain to anyone either.
I believe there is a reset button inside the box but exactly what that does I dont know,in any case opening up the box would void any guarantee he has....

A new developement with this problem.
I've tried this so called faulty box in my area for the last week, (nthell) and it has been working fine with all the channels.
When i gave him it back it is losing channels again.
He's tried fine tuning the frequency but not making any difference.
The firmware version is June 07. I tried flashing this with Oct 07 but it wouldn't accept it. I know that you can't update a clone, but I'm sure the box is genuine as the supplier he got it from has a good reputation.
Its a strange problem, anyone any further ideas.
I'm going to probably swap my box for his if we can't resolve.
PS his area is welewest.
