Hi all, had a genuine vox blue 2006 for well over a year now - great product. Now it won't come out of standby mode at all. Checked voltages inside & all seems OK so I'm preuming i need to reflash or something.
I've read on various posts about flashing using null modem (understand that) and JTAGging using a home made piece of kit using a logic chip (electronics background so no problem there but couldn't find a decent diagram of the circuit). Which of these things do I need to do? I have standby LED (red) but nothing on display (not even ----). Thanks in advance Kind regards Mike ![]() |

Hi again, apologies for being a complete numpty & not reading the 'read this before posting' thread! Here's some stuff about me....
I work in IT on the south coast & have been using cable boxes for many years. Before the 'Vox I was using a little black box (1"X2"x3") on my old analog signal (still have it if it's of use to anyone!). Mortgage, 3 kids, a medium maintenance wife and a lodger who's into footie - the 'Vox has been a godsend. I'm still paying VM over £50 per month for telephone & a dubious 20Mb broadband connection so I don't feel guilty about it. (Does anyone know any reliable BB speed tests I can leave running on my network server?). I have been trying to find out the answer to my query through searching the forum but still don't fully know what I need to do. Happy to do some work building JTAg bits if that's what I need (or even buying one off you Lincsat!) ![]() Mike |

It looks like Jtag is what's needed.
A sure sign is if you have one of the following: 1) No lights at all (can look like a power problem but if you put a finger on the main chip it will be hot - careful for others out there do NOT put your finger on the power board). 2) Standby light only. 3) Two green dot's in the display. I'd recommend buying a Buffered Jtag lead made up, they can be got from a number of places including fleaBay very cheaply. You will also need the following 2 bits of software: Jkeys & a Blue Tsop file. D |

Thanks Dolphin - I'll get hold of one & let you know how it goes!
What is the difference behind what I'm doing & a flash? I understand a flash reloads the operating software. Does a JTAg do the same from a more serious failure or does it do something different (like the difference between loading an OS & flashing a BIOS)?? Thanks Mike ![]() |

You got it in one,
What people call flashing the chip is as you say putting the OS on board (loading a .bin file) and Jtagging is hitting the "BIOS" for a better word, where you load a Tsop file. Good luck with your work. D |

Hi,dont know anything about jtagging (sorry)but if u have had ur box for over a yr its more than paid for itself im sure :-).I too have had my moneys worth and when my box died (kids broke it)i had no qualms about purchasing the new max 2008.this box is a vast improvment on the previous versions, and hopefully i wil get my moneys worth again.saying that jtagging might be cheap to buy & easy to do.just my opinion of course.

SEACROFT BOY - POST THIS IN THE CABLE BOX FORUM NOT THE EUROVOX FORUM! lol
Re: JtAG OR FLASHING I had this problem with a Eurovox a few weeks ago. I reflashed it with an rs232 and it worked! Only prob u might have is making ur PC detect the box. Best thing to do is start the flashing process and only power the box up ONCE you have hit start and the PC starts looking for a box.. Normally you'd connect the powered box to ur pc and the run the software...!! Best try that before messing with JTAGS.. |
