Default New to digital tv

Hello,

We are in the process of getting an LCD TV with satellite tv and I have some nagging questions that the sales guys can't answer. We want to get either a 720 or 1080p LCD TV and Satellite TV (either Dish network or Direct TV) My big question is that I have a Toshiba DVD recorder with a 40 gig hdd which enables me to edit shows before I burn them to dvd. The recorder does not have digital video out, but has digital sound out.

Here are my questions:

Can I use this recorder with a new TV, or will the picture look crummy?

Will I have to use the DVR that comes with the satellite reciever, or can I use my Toshiba? I really don't want to be stuck with the DVR, since it cannot edit anything, only skip commercials.

I really want to keep using the DVD recorder.

Based on what we have here in Europe. I would say that you can use your DVD recorder, but it will only be SD and not HD. The PVR in your satellite box should be fully HD compatible. You should be able to copy from your PVR to your DVD recorder if required.

Use the best quality connections available from the DVD recorder to your TV, RGB or Component if available, even composite would be better than RF
