Default SVT Europa and Radio Sweden switching from Sirius 2 satellite to Eurobird 9

SVT Europa and Radio Sweden are switching from the Sirius 2 satellite to Eurobird 9. The switch will be made on 8 December, and will affect Radio Sweden’s satellite channels to Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

Satellite dishes will have to move from 5 degrees East to 9 degrees East to receive Eurobird 9. The reason for the change is that the contract with Sirius is expiring, and in January Sirius 2 will be replaced with a new satellite, with a poorer coverage area.
Eurobird 9 has a strong signal and a large coverage area, with means smaller dish antennas will be necessary for reception, for example, in the Canary Islands and the Arabian peninsula.

The contract regarding SVT Europa and Eurobird 9 is for five years, and was agreed upon on 23 November, 2007.
