BBC Prime and BFBS tv channels

Hi i have just 'found' the forum while searching the net. i live in cyprus , my gf is british and she would like to watch BBC Prime and BFBS tv channels as she misses english tv.

I have a 1 meter dish (pointed towards Hotbird) and my receiver is the Dreambox 500S, i currently get a lot of greek and mediterranean channels but no BBC prime although i see it on skyitalia and polsat.

Is there a way to watch any of these British channels with no subscription? i already have subscription to Nova so i don't want to pay more subscriptions. i have to admit that i dont know much about satellite terminology, i just had the DM and dish installed and that was it.
any kind of help much appreciated

Hi izanitna,

Welcome to the forum.

There are two ways to get English TV in Cyrprus.

One is to get a really big dish, like 2.4 to 4.2m and pickup signals from the Astra2D (28E) beam pointed at the UK.

The other is to see what you can get off the other satellites.
Yes BBC Prime is on Hotbird, not sure where the other one are availbale.

As far as I know, you will be able to get BBC Prime on a Dreambox from Hotbird. I can do it oK on my Technomate. I'm pretty sure it is the GlobeCast one. I will check later.
Hopefully one of the Dreambox experts will help you to do it.

some are FTA but I don't think the encrypted ones are possible.

Hi Robbo and thanks for ur quick reply. BBC prime is good enough for now, the bigger dishes cost a fortune here... I can get bbc prime with my 1m but is locked, just looking for ways to open it.

As I said before, I am pretty sure it can be done
But you need the help from one of the Dreambox gurus.

Theres no way of watching BFBS unless you have an official card, or can find someone who will give you card share access to theirs (and c/s for BFBS are as rare as hens teeth.

thats what i've been told by someone i know... he knows some guy who's got cards for bfbs and prime but is very cautious in giving share access... i guess i'll have to try to convince him to do it!
