Default Earthing a dish

I remember reading somewhere on the net that most dishes in USA and Europe are earthed in case of lighting strikes, what are your thoughts on this? I think its a good idea, I have tried to find out about lightning protection systems for the house but no one seams to do them in this country.

OK, I'm an electrical moron, but I've asked some highly qualified people about this, and they basically said:

Lightening strike protection - forget it. Whatever you put in place is likely to make **** all difference in the case of a direct strike. The lightening will find it's way to earth PDQ regardless of whatever you may put in place. It won't be at all bothered about following some flimsy cable you spent good money on installing.

General earthing (WRT household supply/12-18V LNB supply) - forget it. All main-powered devices are already earthed via a 'floating earth' system as part of your property's existing electrical provisioning. Adding additional earthing may even prove dangerous or otherwise detrimental to the safe operation of such pre-existing systems.

Or something like that. Don't ask me to explain further, because I'll just stare blankly back at you like an idiot. See my opening comment in this post...
