Default Upgrade from TM1500 to PVR version but which?

Hi,
I want to upgrade my TM1500 to a PVR version.
I have heard that the 5000 and 6000 series only allows you to watch the programme that is being recorded live and no other channel?

Also when recording on to external Hard disk or memory stick, it only records at a low resolution of 640x340 and not full screen?

If all the above is true then would it be cheeper just to go for TM5000?

Can I connect it in seires with my TM1500 so I have a twin Satellite tuner to watch a diffrent channel while recording another?

Regards

Hi Alien1X
Welcome to the forum,

I can answer part of your question, but not all as I don't have one of the PVR models.

The equivalent PVR capable receiver in the 5000 series is the TM5400CI+ , which is basically an upgrade to the TM1500CI+ but with the addition of the USB port for PVR capability and a 10,000 channel storage rather than 5000.

To connect two receivers to one dish the best method is to change the LNB to a TWIN from a SINGLE, with separate cables going to each receiver.

You can use a SINGLE lnb and use the IF loopthrough to the 2nd receiver.
Howver this would limit the channels you could view/record on the 2nd receiver to transponders in the same band and polarisation, if you wanted to use both at once.

Its really confusing when Technomate bring out these new HD - PVR recivers and yet the new 5000 series models do the same thing except they use component video instead of HDMI.

However, if I was to use a loop thru option, would this mean that while 1 receiver is recording on 19e, a I can see a diffrent channel on 19e on the second receiver?

You mention this might limit the channels I can see.....?

I wish a twin tuner sat reciever was available in this country.I know Topfield do one with HD/PVR ...but not in UK.And I dought if there would be any patches etc for it either.

Yes it would, on the 2nd receiver. The band and the polarisation would have to be the same as the 1st receiver.

Universal LNBs switch between two bands;high and low,
also between horizontal and vertical polarisation.

Explainedm in more detail here:-
