PS3 connected to DVD player with surround sound!

Hey,

I'm currently going crazy connecting my PS3 to my DVD player to get surround sound.

The problem is the DVD player has no optical input.

However i do have a Tristar AV Centre. So i have connected the PS3 via HDMI cable to my TV, optical out from the PS3 to my Tristar centres input then from the AV centres output via RCA audio to the DVD players AUX input.

I have selected the AUX channel on the DVD player and changed the audio settings on the PS3 however it still does not work.

I admit my knowledge on the subject is very limited however i dont see why this setup should not work.

Any help and suggestions on the issue would be much appreciated.

Do you mean stereo RCA? Don't see the point of outputting in 5.1 Optical, then downscaling to 2.0 RCA as the surround sound will only be in pro-logic (or have I misunderstood you?)

I've got the optical going directly into my amp and it sounds amazing in real Dolby Digital. Only gripe is it doesn't output on the HDMI port either (the old PS2 used to output on every interface), so when I don't turn the amp on (for a quick game) I have no sound
