NEW Pictures of members dish/receiver setups please! wod, nano and Yorks have used them. Also a couple of tutorials here. Sticks is the most comprehensive, but a few photos in the other one. How to install a DiSEqC motor the right way Installing A Motor With Photos I have read on the satellitesuperstore website that certain USB hard disks need to be used, but maybe they are just trying to get more money off us. Joshjess or someone who has one attached should be able to tell you. Robbo

I had the same thoughts about the need for special usb - maybe it's a retailer con. Yet my external drive does seem rather fussy about the software in the pc I use. I guess I'm wondering how one loads the software for it to read the drive. I assume that the control panel is used to get it to record and playback - but that is only after it has recognised the hard drive. Any thoughts out there in techwatch land?

Hi all,
Interesting thread, I live on the Powys border near Hay on Wye, I have just had a motorised system fitted, it is placed to the rear and above my existing sky setup on a side wall, Woks perfect from east to west.

Nice pic. How does your dish stand up to the wind - nature's of course! I'm very exposed and would prefer wall mount on a se facing wall.

As you can see from the $ky dish the house is virtally facing south, Protection from the North winds comes from the house and the big western spruce to the left. You can just about see the pole and heafty brackets holding the dish, you would think by looking at the house that the smaller roof would be in the way but it isn't.

Hi Snappy,
I have just installed a motorised system and am really pleased i chose motorised instead of fixed, bought from southern satellite whom i would highly recommend. I think if you put the extra bit of effort into aligning the motor instead of fixed you will keep your options open for the future. I have posted some of my experiences on mounting the dish and motor installation experience 80cm motorised system including what you will need and highly recommend the installation guide with pictures on this forum. Good luck. |
