Default i need help on buying a sat system

i have a starview box just now and it has never let me down so far

but as its connected to a cable provider i only get cable channels

i was thinking of getting a sky system but want to know a bit more about it first

ihave a sky mini dish and was wondering if i bought a receiver like the ones recomended here would i be able to plug the dish in to that until i get a motorised one

and also do you have to do a card sharing when on satalite?

i live in scotland and would like to get all the celtic and rangers games that are not shown on setanta, is this posable?

Hi,

One of the patchable receivers such as the Technomates,Vantage or whatever will work fine on your Sky dish pointed at 28.2E/28.5E, but you will only get the free to air channels, plus maybe the free to view ones with the Vantage for example.

You would have to wack your dish round to 13E OR 19.2E to make any use of the patch.

For card sharing you need a box that has a network connection such as a Dreambox.

As for Scottish games, sorry I haven't a clue.

Hi mate, a lot of the Scotish games are shown on Pre*, on the Astra 1 group of sats at 19 degrees East, but you need a box that you can patch and update the keys on. See my other reply to your other post for my set up, I should ad that I have a 1.2 Mtr. Channel Master dish with a 36V positioner and a 1.1Mtr disd on a H to H motor.

I would say get a dreambox 500s, I saw some on ebay the other day and they were quite cheap. I got mine from ebay , this time last year and it cost me £99. Hope that you find one. Just had a look on ebay and found this 170175895639 it is a dreambox 500s and is €160 and best of all it is free postage, worth a look.

Best regards Wez

I'm sure the SPL stuff will be available on ART this year. You can get a genuine 12 month sub for about £80 on ebay

I would in all honesty avoid any of the 500s Dreamboxes on ebay as the market is flooded with cheap chinese clones at the moment

Some of the 500s also have problems operating DISEqC motors so thats out aswell. Finally the Dreambox is a complete swine to operate if your a newbie to sats. I've had my 7020 for over 12 months and i still haven't sussed out everything it can do yet

If your going to go in headfirst with a box like the Dreambox 500s i would seriously look at on of the cheaper Linux boxes like the Envision 500s or the Eaglebox. They use the same operating system as the Dreambox 500s and can do everything the Dreambox 500s can but best of all they are only about £70-80

Or get a Technomate and patch it, and then a ART card maybe easier than a linux box.
