Sat channels steadily decreasing!! - Techwatch: Satellite TV forums, FTA, Cable, Hardware, & Tech forums

Hi there - I'm not much of an expert with this stuff so you'll have to forgive me!! I recently upgraded to Sky+ so I've given my old Grundig digibox to a friend. He has recently moved into a house where the previous occupants had Sky, so the dish and cable was already in place. So he has hooked up the digibox (no viewing card) and it all works okay (with obviously the odd channel not accessible without the viewing card).
BUT - it appears that the channel listings only went up to around 600! And the next day they only went up to around 300, and now he only has channels up to 180! Litterally, if you're viewing channel 101 and push the channel - button you go staight to channel 180!!
I've never heard of this happening before! Any ideas??
Any help would be very much appreciated!

Probably out of date software on the box - a common problem. Do a forced software upgrade - details are on the forum in the 28E section. Use of the search button will throw it up

Thanks for that! Actually this def makes sense as the box hasn't been used for a good 3 years or maybe more. And now it's being used without the telephone cable connected. Actually - do you need to connect the phone line in order to perform the software upgrade? I am guessing you do!?

No you don't need the phone line connected, the update comes from the satellite.
