Hi there,
thanks for that, the confusing bit for me ( and there are a lot of those ! ) is that BBC World does not appear although I have a valid card from ITV Partners that I have put in my DB. It is the mechanics of loading the image and emu that baffle me, are either or both of these software uploads necessary for the box to operate properly ? Thx in advance Mike |

Hi Mike.
I assume from what you have said that you have an image installed on your 500 and as the 500 can only have one image at a time, you dont need to do any more at this stage. To open channels, you need an emu and keys. Most of the images allow direct internet downloading of emus and keys once you have the Dreambox internet connected. I think this is where you are having trouble. Your network will be made up based on the router lan IP. If you already have your laptop interconnected via your router then open a dos window and type ipconfig /all The network info will be displayed in the window and will be something like: 192.1168.0.? the ? will be a number between 2 and 255. It may alternatively be 192.168.1.? Go to your Dreambox setup window and select expert setup. From the new window, select the first item connections setup or somthing like it. Uncheck the DHCP box, enter the IP as 192.168.0.24 or 192.168.1.24 depending on the number you found on the dos window. enter 255.255.255.0 in the next line and put the last two lines as your router IP. Then tick the enable network box and save. From your laptop dos window type ping 192.168.0.24 or 192.168.1.24 and you should get a series of three lines saying ping has worked ok. If all is well, you should now be able to download direct to the Dreambox and you should be able to ftp between the laptop and the dreambox. Good luck.

Hi Jim,
thx for all that, the first bit went easily enough, my router ip is 192.168.1.1 and I have followed the rest of your instructions but have not achieved successful ping on either set of numbers, message comes back 4 packets sent and 4 lost, my comms setup window was saved as IP 192.168.1.1 Netmask 255.255.255.0 Type LAN nameserver and gateway both as 192.168.1.1 DHCP unchecked Network enabled and Port 80 Any ideas where I have gone wrong please ? Hi Hardknocks, yes a crossover cable is correct.
As my previous post, enter ipconfig /all in a dos window and it will tell you the IP and subnet mask groups that you need to connect to. Substitute the pc details into the Dreambox connections settings window for the last two lines. Whilst I gave the number 24 as the last number in the Dreambox IP, it can be anything other than the numbers already used by other network devices. I expect the numbers needed will be 192.168.0.24 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Whist some use dhcp in the pc and the dreambox, I prefer not to because if you add a device to your network, the numbers can change and mess up the connection programmes. I always use manually entered network addresses.

Hi Jim, it's me again,
Tried rebooting ( switch off, wait, then switch on ? ) no change, would not ping. Got so p****d with it I went and reset to DM factory settings ! I now have a lovely Enigma satellite view of somewhere, much better than what I had before. I have gone back into Communication Setup and a couple of things have changed, I now have ( top to bottom ) IP: 192.168.1.4 DHCP ticked Netmask as before Type LAN as before Nameserver 192.168.1.1 Gateway ditto above enable network ticked Port 80 I have not saved ( green button ) this yet ????????????????????????????????????????? My head hurts !! Mike |

Not quite with your last comment. By connecting your PC and Dreambox together by crossover lan cable, you are creating a network.
